I forget which member recently asked in their journal to name the most parsimonious person in your life. For me it's got to be one of the partners at my work. He'll spend a half hour looking for a 30-cent long-distance phone charge so he can bill it to a client. He asked me the other day whether our DSL service charges by the minute...

yeah i just hope everyone can see the spitwad coming outta my mouth...otherwise, what's the point?

There's nothing like an idiot who is so focused on the bottom line that they never see the whole picture. I used to work a a studio where the owner was so cheap he would never buy anything of quality, just gear that barely performed it's function, and most was consumer or "prosumer", not real professional quality. In the long run he just bought more stuff then he would have if he purchased quality gear in the first place that you could work on if broken instead of crappy shit that once it's broken you have to toss it because the box doesn't even have screws to take it apart and fix it! Can't see the forest through the trees.

The weather in Chicago has been really tollerable over the last couple of weeks. However, I know this is only a trick before hitting me with the paralyzing arctic desolation that is winter in Chicago. It's strange, I grew up in this town, but I can't take the winters here anymore. Living in Portland must have weakened my resistance to cold. Not that winter in...

Yes, mother Nature was playing a trick on us all, the cold is back again. The winters really do suck here.

Ahh, the first hangover of the new year is always so special. Went to a couple of parties held by my theater friends. Drunkenness was acheived, witty banter was made, and I got several New Year's kisses from some very nice-smelling girls. A good time all in all. Oh, and I chatted up a casting agent, so that's a good thing.

Personally, I'm more than...

oh my god i cannot believe you like the badger king....that's my high school boyfriend's band. i'll have to tell him he has a fan in chicago.
dollface:
that's rad that you got that book. i personally like, as i mentioned before, the chapter on the 'metaphysical hangover' and the part where he recommends "vigorous" sex to cure a hangover (if there is someone there, of course).

The new profile pic is me and my sister, whose face does not normally look so scrunched up. She rocks my world--she's a writer and performance poet, who usually spends the summers touring with her 3-woman poetry group. She's also a crack pool player and can match me drink for drink. (No mean feat, this.)

Currently listening to: Chick Habit by April March.

holy shit! you know Al?my band has played with a couple of his bands.good times.that burn collector book is a great read.

Twincitiesburnin: Small small world. Back in PDX, I saw him play in a number of great bands (the long deceased Rusty Martin being my favorite). Hey, you should put up a journal entry--we can't post to your journal until you do. (When you post in someone else's journal, people here tend to reply in your journal.)

I'm having a perfectly fine X-Mas eve, thank you very much. Was down at the Grand-rent's house on da sout side of Chicago. Got the DVD player I wanted and there were no fights, so all is good. (OK, one at the end, but no big deal.) I've got an Armangac glow from the after-dinner drinks and posting aroung the SG boards is just my...

*I've done a chicago member search and am leaving this message in everyone's journal who's from the area...

You're invited to join SGchicago- a seperate group discussion for SG members in your neck of the woods. Perhaps this will one day lead to some SG representation from the midwest to battle it out w/ the coasts. smile

If you're interested in joining, just click on the groups button up top and submit your name. Simple as that. wink

Man o Man, your neighbors need to get a life. I would steal their lawn furniture for sure (that would teach 'em!) confused

I had a great time last night--met indigoboy and mrs. indigoboy, themodernist and friend. It was a small gathering, but the people were great and fun was had. I thought of it as an incubator for bigger SG-Chicago gettogethers in the future. Currently I'm coping with a headache and heading to a family function, but pictures will follow soon.

oh no, the professional photog. bit is a bit of a joke- my photos are actually pretty lo-fi.

I didn't even know there was an SG-Chicago...!

ha ha...i wasn't expecting an office, but that is cool that so many members are artists or 'creative types.'

OK, things are better now. I worked some today, then worked out and at last went for drinks at The Hungry Brain. Also found a pizza place that served by the slice--which is oddly rare in Chicago. My brain/world interface is now performing within acceptable limits.

I'm looking forward to the SG member get-together at Club Foot tomorrow. It should be fun. Which reminds me,...

That's so awesome! It's like a little video on my computer! (I'm still amazed at the power of these things, just started using my husband's mac last year, before that, I didn't even email!)
Even though I rarely listen to music with "real" singing any more, I think I need to start listening to more NEW PORNOGRAPHERS! I think they'll be great to work to. Thanks so much for the link! Have fun at the SG par-tay!

I'm feeling rather stupid today. My motto for the moment is: it's never too late to stop caring.

Hey Chicago people: remember the thing this Friday at Club Foot.
dollface:
i only have metaphysical hangovers. i have one right now.
twilightclone:
MIB II was o.k.-it was a little lighter than the first one, but i still enjoy the idea and all the characters........they are fun to watch with a lot of people too....Friday should be interesting, but after reviewing other members's profiles as you did, it seems as it may be a sausage fest...how the fuck can a city like chicago with clubs like Exit and Nero not have one suicide girl? when i get back into town here next year, i am going to start distributing the SG flyers and such....are you with me?

OK, kids... I just noticed that a high percentage of my posts and journal entries have been distressingly sincere and well-intentioned. So enough of that!

What I'm about now is fun! Goofy good times, and pleasures of the flesh. It's all sybaritic soirees and balls-out bachanals with me now. And when it's not about fun, it's about being catty and mean. Heads up kids, because...

Did you ever make a friend that you later regretted letting into your life? My life is pretty strongly affected by who I choose to hang around so I try to be discerning about who I make attachments with. But sometimes you make a mistake, or they change, or YOU change and they don't--and for mental health reasons you've got to push that person out...

I have made many friends like that, who have fucked me over and hurt me countless times. It sucks, and it makes me feel as though people really aren't worth it.

I have no friends anymore, and haven't bothered to make any, so go figure I guess.

Its a wombat. Which are these fabulous marsupials that can grow to be 90 lbs and run at 40 km per hour. They are smart and cuddly and live in Australia only. I dream of one day having some pet ones, called Charles and Budgie. And it will be sublime.
