But in a truly practical sense, whether something qualifies as cheating or just flirting (and what's allowed in either case) it TOTALLY dependent on the people in the relationship and what they deem is permissible.

I so fucking hate that song too. The local "rock" station plays it all the time. No wonder all I listen to is NPR and CDs. "Awww, what a sweet little song...about infidelity." It's bad enough that it's fucking wuss ass emo rock. I hate that shit. But, like you said it romanticizes cheating. Dude, if you love the girl on the phone so much, grow a pair and break up with your girlfriend so you can be with her. In fact, the song made me think of you since I know you hate cheaters so much.
