Good news to counter the bad news?

Lovely when life strikes a balance.

Onward and upward, my friends.

I got some really sad news today, about an old, old friend of mine.

I am learning:
You can not save anyone. Salvation is far too personal.

I have to turn in a take-home exam tomorrow, but I might just e-mail it to the prof (to prove it's done), and drop it off Thursday. Maybe I need a little bit of sleep. That will help....

You're right about salvation: all you can do is open the door, the other person still has to choose to go through it. Which doesn't make it any less troubling. frown
You're the first person I've seen be excited about snow. surreal
1sailor:
Sad, but true.
I have always liked to walk in snow falling through streetlights at night.

Ahhh guys, you are so nice.
I felt much better after reading your comments.

(Back to the perfunctory intro shit: Don't forget Daughter of Neptune!!!
I deblocked -uhhh, I guess this isn't a word in English- my twitter. And I've got a facebook now)

I've got a story I really want to finish.
I had a breakthrough at about 3 AM, I couldn't...

Today was a write off.
My cat got stuck in a wall.

I think she went in at like 5-6 AM, and I just got her out. What a fiasco! I've been scared all day that I would never see my terrible baby again... but she's back. Exhausting!!

I've got a lot of emails to respond to. I've checked out nearly all the suggestions you...

"Do you prefer particular literary genres?"

Yes.

glad your kitty is ok!! biggrin

"Do you read poetry? "

OH MY, NO.

"Are there certain topics that just don't interest you?"

yes. "reality" tv! tongue
wondermike:
What makes a book worth reading?

I like to read books that contain ideas I've never thought of before.

What makes an author stand out?

Originality. Hard to do these days but really the litmus test for me. It doesn't mean everything about a book has to be totally original but it just has to have a new angle or a new take on something.

Do you prefer particular literary genres?

Science fiction. No other genre explores the borders of human thought in the same way. Also science fiction reflects on the way our society changes and explores possible outcomes of those changes. It's fascinating to read something that was written just twenty years ago and is already completely overtaken by reality.

Do you read poetry? Prose?

Prose. I've still got quite a few volumes of poetry from Eng. Lit. classes of yore in my shelf. But hey have remained unopened ever since.

Are there certain topics that just don't interest you?

Most of them, to be honest. Like celebrities, sports (OK, I watch snooker on the telly occasionally), almost everything that passes for popular entertainment these days, politics (I keep up to date, but most of the time it's just painful to watch the news), the everyday pettiness many people are so preoccupied with, and a lot of other stuff I'm so uninterested in, I can't even name it. And yes, I'm a card-carrying nerd.

By the way, some music tips can be found in my latest blog entry.

Ah, so that was enjoyable, hey?

I'll answer a few more.

(By the way, I've now got a facebook page. Brand new... Will get cooler. Add me, or like me, or however it works)

What is melanzane?
Eggplant.

What brings out the inner geek in you most of all? Anything unique that leaves people around you stumped?

This is the most difficult question I have...

Was the tattoo on your foot painful? It doesn't look finished, is it?
It sucked! Some spots felt like almost nothing, but the bad spots were really...

I've rated hundreds of movies, and Netflix's recommendation algorithm does get trained. It gets better for sure.
bender47:
Net flix actually awarded 1M$ US for the best algorithm for recommending movies. So, pretty much, if it still isn't working, it probably never will. Two good ones me likey: Let the Right One In - best vampire movie ever made, but you have to not mind subtitles - and The Broken. But I prefer creepy flicks.

peabutter (not peanutbutter, but pretty damn similar)

vinegar

I am contemplating my existence, as it hasn't been entirely fulfilling recently. Something is amiss.

I am pretty good at
Service work (argh)

Although a few people took pictures of me last night, I don't think I'll end up seeing them, as they were mostly strangers.

Sooooo, you shall not see my costume after all. I was not a vampire smile but I did wear fangs.

I still have green scales all over my legs.
visigoth:
That's a shame. Fangs and scales sound like a fine combination.

did you go as the creature from that movie Hisss?
