Today was a write off.
My cat got stuck in a wall.
I think she went in at like 5-6 AM, and I just got her out. What a fiasco! I've been scared all day that I would never see my terrible baby again... but she's back. Exhausting!!
I've got a lot of emails to respond to. I've checked out nearly all the suggestions you guys have offered. Music is the easiest, films and books I haven't had a chance to explore fully. A lot of the recommendations I'm getting are things I'm already familiar withl (we share good taste? ).
Riddle me this.
What makes a book worth reading?
What makes an author stand out?
Do you prefer particular literary genres?
Do you read poetry? Prose?
Are there certain topics that just don't interest you?
Tomorrow, I intend to catch up on e-mails. So many projects going on, it's hard to find time to focus adequate energy.

Yes.
glad your kitty is ok!!
"Do you read poetry? "
OH MY, NO.
"Are there certain topics that just don't interest you?"
yes. "reality" tv!
I like to read books that contain ideas I've never thought of before.
What makes an author stand out?
Originality. Hard to do these days but really the litmus test for me. It doesn't mean everything about a book has to be totally original but it just has to have a new angle or a new take on something.
Do you prefer particular literary genres?
Science fiction. No other genre explores the borders of human thought in the same way. Also science fiction reflects on the way our society changes and explores possible outcomes of those changes. It's fascinating to read something that was written just twenty years ago and is already completely overtaken by reality.
Do you read poetry? Prose?
Prose. I've still got quite a few volumes of poetry from Eng. Lit. classes of yore in my shelf. But hey have remained unopened ever since.
Are there certain topics that just don't interest you?
Most of them, to be honest. Like celebrities, sports (OK, I watch snooker on the telly occasionally), almost everything that passes for popular entertainment these days, politics (I keep up to date, but most of the time it's just painful to watch the news), the everyday pettiness many people are so preoccupied with, and a lot of other stuff I'm so uninterested in, I can't even name it. And yes, I'm a card-carrying nerd.
By the way, some music tips can be found in my latest blog entry.
