People are always more interesting than words like "mean" can convey. I'm learning.

Datta, dayadhvam, damyata; each balanced against the other, leaning, lengthening spires, breaking up from hard ground.

I'm lately finding words to be entirely insufficient.

Topic for a PhD in music/biochemistry: "Blues in open B(ar): the effects of narcotics on fretboard harmony in 70s rock music".

Having just discovered how to sound like Keith Richards without employing an open tuning (one more miracle chalked up to the wonders of inversions) I understand now why I'll never be good at playing real rock and roll, and why nervous, friendly white people...

Hmm.... I guess through my combination of experience with playing the guitar, experience using drugs and knowledge about biochemistry, I'm probably the most qualified person to answer your response who's going to read your journal. Unfortunately, there's not much I can come up with to help. The only thing I can really think of as an analogy would be shooting pool - there's sort of a curve that your playing ability follows with respect to have many drinks you've taken, where after 1-2 drinksk you play much better, then 3-5 drinks play much worse. The former effect is likely due to simply being more loose and less concerned with the minor technical details of playing than the overall goal of the game, and less self-conscious. The latter effect is, well, the effect of the drinks (or in the case of the music, the heroin.) Sorry, that's the best I can do.

I prefer brunettes as well. I think its how unfairly proportioned she is. Something about tall/thin women with ample breasts does something for me. Blame Robert McGinnis or Phil Noto.

Did you know shes with Seal. Soulkissedalawnmower Seal. Their child will either be one of those incredibly lucky light skinned blacks with blue eyes or some horrifyingly freckled monstrosity forced to live out the rest of their days as a reclusive Balinese Mask Maker. Or something less comedic and plain.

Thank you. I'm feeling better now.

Sudden flash of insight after viewing "Big Fish".

Tim Burton is a fucking hack. The most interesting thing about him is his hair, and maybe his wardrobe.

But his production designers are first-rate.

I didn't like that movie.

Yeah, it takes effort to be a person though, and I haven't had many naps lately.

If I don't start updating more regularly, you're going to start thinking I've gone and gotten a life.

Life? You? Psh, what she said.

nope. I was assuming it was the job.

This is one of those updates that happen when you don't have anything much to say.

When I was on vacation a few weeks ago I decided that my quality of life would be improved by purging from my dresser and closet all clothing that I, a) dislike, b) never wear, and c) would be better off not wearing anymore.

The Closet: what remains

The contents of your mail make me happy.

I have some spiffy ties.

It's time for a wardrobe purge over here as well.
mobprod:
I really need a couple more cheap but swank suits. Did a bit of wardrobe purge myself earlier this year. Felt good, but a couple of months later it seems like I still have just as much useless filler clothing as I had before.

While waiting for a stomach ache to pass...

Direction from the Seventeenth Floor

I've never had an instinct
for directions, never been one
to navigate by gut or celestial
points. Maps are only as useful
as the brightness of the star
labelled "you are here".
I blame the faulty blood
of lazy maharajas and Hindu

I really dig this poem. I still slightly prefer the one about nocturnal inspiration striking with only an inkless pen at hand, but this one is damn good. Keep it up!

I spent far too long trying to get a vlookup to work on two columns.

Excel is totally giving me the "new guy" treatment.

I need to figure out how to get more than 6 hours sleep a night and still get to work early enough so I can be home earlier than 6:30. Time machine schematics welcome.

HAHA. you know me well enough to remember my walnut-sized (not textured!) bladder makes urination a large part of any job i command. I thought that was why Barnes and Noble hired me, actually.

Yeah, I saw those at work the other day and wanted to send you the link but I'm wary of logging onto this forbidden land for fear of getting fired.

Do I have your email address?

I'm liking the new job.

Today I called stores in every timezone in the country.

Tomorrow I'm going to begin rewriting all the store operational manuals to include no adjectives other than hard. (Yes, in bold.)

My brother's girlfriend's dad died today. He was diagnosed with terminal cancer hardly two months ago, which prompted him to retire at once so he could spend the rest of his days fishing. He opted not to go through chemotherapy; he reasoned that if it turns out he's not got long to go he'd prefer to spend the little time he's got doing something...

Sounds like he was a great man with a great way of living. Thanks for the support on my Chicago trip, things went well. I guess it's all just a 'Simple Twist of Fate ".

Thanks again for the correction. wink
obd:
I'm sorry to hear about this. It does sound as though he was at peace. I know you, your brother and the rest of your family will be supportive of her. My condolences.

New job starts at 9 am tomorrow. I've already begun carefully selecting my attire. This is harder than it looks. Like poetry.

Just wear anything with elbow patches. You're sure to be a success. Except maybe a tube top with elbow patches. That might just cause a stir, especially if it were sequined. I would recommend steering clear of anything with sequins.

See, I'm good at this.
