I've had a day of annoying little annoyances, the kind that you can't even make a Journal of... fortunately, we have New Orleans and the price of gas to put small annoyances in perspective... but I'm sad to say the A/C here has broken down for the second time in a week. Right now, I'm doing the only sensible thing in response to all these...

aqua vitae
that's what the nurse asked for when she finds juliet "dead" in her bed the morning after taking the apothecary's sleeping potion.
i played the nurse in high school, hence the obscure reference. also, i just thought i'd be a dork and put in my two cents. confused

pygmy has really made some great CDs for me. I was listening to another to and from the Arboretum yesterday, and it was great.

I'd wondered a little bit why there is this row of columns on a hill at the Arboretum, and I finally went to see them up close and read the signs- they used to stand in front of the US...

I really liked PP. I just didn't understand why everyone was so hung up on the supposed satire and Kimberly's puppeteering ways. What I found most interesting was the fact that they waited until the last minute to show what truly was going on beneath the surface of this alpha female. I found the last scene to be really, really moving. The NY Times called the last minute confusing, but for me, it really made the thing. In fact, I know people like the Kimberly character.
bredoteau:
Oh yeah, forgot to add: 2046 is the new one from Wong Kar Wai. It's kind of like the prequel to In the Mood for Love. Saraband is the new one from Bergman, and it is kind of like the sequel to Scenes from a Marriage. Exciting shit!

Well, I'm glad to see tomahto/ Antimony's relatives are okay. They had been living in Waveland, MS; tomahto linked to an article specifically about the town's wreckage a couple days ago.

There are some pretty sobering and stunning pics on Yahoo News... but then, I'm sure a lot of you have seen stuff on cable news and such already. Obviously, I go to...

I had a thought the other day, as I have many, but this one is particularly callous. What if this is a natural order of things? For example Venice. Venice, would be underwater right now if the Italians had not gone and still go through such drastic measures to levy and damn the ever rising water and sinking city. I wonder if we stop to think that if we did not have the scientific smarts would we say it was an "act of God" and it is "God's will" that such things happen? We take such extreme measures to preserve and stay. What if we are not supposed to? If the shoes were on my feet maybe I would feel differently. I"ve not lived through a natural disaster, and I've been lucky to not have relatives in them either, so with this I'll admit my point of view is skewed.
So my point being that we know California is one day going to seperate at the San Andreas fault line and slid into the ocean. We even accept that fact. Yet we do not go out and try to build brackets to keep the seperation from happening. So what if this is the fate of New Orleans?
illstabyou:
Oh my gosh -- that puffin picture has one of the most special puffins ever. IT HAS HUMAN TEETH!

Was good to see the band last night. Always good to see Tryst, BillHaverchuck, and SaintInsomniac. Not always good to drink, but was last night. It's weird to think of Rockbot not having Trysty anymore. Will they get another singer, and will I still like 'em then? I'm sure they'd be good on some level, but it's still weird. Karmella's Game always...

I'm going to cheat and not update, but say 1) I'm just going to change around my Favorite SGs again, over the next couple weeks, cuz I miss Brookelynne and tried to call her today but neither number worked, and I loved hangin with Antimony (I almost called her "infornography") and Isadora, and 2) I've mostly read Bill James's history of baseball managers. Chances...

It's funny, aside from workin a lot lately (the normal schedule, it's just a lot) I've been up to stuff at the benefit of some and at the loss of others:

loss: sorry to HyenaHell that it'll take me longer to get the CDs done. I realized yesterday I screwed up while burning songs from the Kinks album. I accidentally burnt a song twice, the...

Thanks for pointing me towards that song. It's great.

I wonder why the BoaC won't work.. I thought I checked it before I sent it out. Want me to try again?

The treehouse is definitely not up to code, but
A. We aren't telling anyone, and no one will have a reason to find out about it (we won't have electricity or an adress, even & we are digging our own well) It's difficult to see anyways and just looks like a shack. The only person coming around will be the tax asessor eventually, but they don't care about that stuff. Building in the boonies is totally different than the city or suburbs. People do that kind of thing all the time.
B. It is (minus the sleeping loft) less than 100 square feet, so you don't need a permit in our county.

Oh, and I'll say "no thanks" on the Kinks

Whaddja think of the arabic music? And did the pastel thingy survive the mail okay?

I've grazed the stinging nettle myself with my toe or a finger and boy did it hurt like a bitch. I'm just happy my friend was too intoxicated to realize the full sting of the initial contact and had only the aftermath to deal with. Sadly I think I'd rather have a round with stinging nettle than poison ivy. I'm allergic to that, but then again who isn't, and the stinging nettle reaction went away quicker than the rings of hell that poison ivy puts me through.
