Been a good weekend so far. Finally made it to a DC United game. Next to last game of the season. The lads in black won 1-0 vs. New England on a beautiful goal by Christian Gomez. Very sweet.

It is the best years of your life they want to steal.
Back to the mountains.
Hadnt really been on the trail any since July in New Mexico. Today was near perfect. Low seventies, sunny to start (it clouded up some later). The hint of Fall in the air.

Sounds gorgeous. Nearly all the leaves have fallen off here. It's a little bit sad but it means snow is just around the corner. I hope you get tons of snow out there too!

Sounds lovely, indeed.
I will enjoy my journey. Time to be tranq'd and stuffed into my pet carrier. REally.
I hate packing. I have been doing contract work that requires travel for over 10 years now. Yep, that is right. I have not had a home in that long....probably longer now that I think about it. I took my stuff out of storage once, after 8 years of not seeing it. 6 months later I moved to Antarctica.
I hate packing.

Got to hear Helen Thomas speak tonight. What a lady. Been a White House Correspondent since 1961. Very opinionated as well on the current administration. I know I said I would avoid any more political posts, but heres the kicker. Ask yourself this-

I love Helen Thomas. She is indeed the Grande Dame of political journalism. The lady has more heart and bigger "cajones" then all of the rest of the Washington press-corps combined. She is one of the few remaining journalists to actually speak the truth. The last of a dying breed...

Yes! You don't have to go up and kick Goofy in the junk. Since everyone has been posting intelligent discourse I figured I'd bring things back down to "Cartoon Characters Getting Struck In Their Imaginary Privates" levels. I think it has something to do with my age.
Update? OK. If you insist. The urge to write is rather weak. I must confess it has been a long week. Why is it that it seem in most jobs, most of our energies seem to be consumed by the task of trying to convince people to do things that they OUGHT to be doing anyway? I dont get it. Oh well. Guess thats why...

Gorgeous day today. It was 48 degrees this morning. Bright, sunny, crisp blue first day of Autumns weather. Time to break out the pack and head for the hills for some FALL camping. This is my favorite time of year to be on the trail. Hopefully soon!
Two other items of note-
1) Test drove a mountain bike this weekend. I don't ride one now-...

We didn't leave Wisconsin with a basket of cheese, but we did get an armload of meat! That's right, we got a two foot long summer sausage and a couple of bags of sausage snack treats. Yummmmmmmmmmm!
OH yeah, I am looking forward to a bit of fall camping too!

- Are you a kayaker ~ notes new profile pic...? There's a group on the site:Suicide Kayakers
- Is your wife a real runner? I'm doing TATM just for a goof, with an old army/college buddy, it'll probably take us two hours! But the "happening" is great fun! I did a triathalon of sorts this past weekend - with no training, and I'm still alive (if a little stiff...)! Same thing - the "happening"; participation is a great thing

- Maybe I could have Suicide Girls sponsor me, with a free shirt...

At this point I am about ready to tune out Dubya and Kerry. Is anyone else feeling like that?
I mean, I already know who I am voting for, why do I need to be bombarded with all the negative energy that is going to be spewed here in the coming weeks?

Stop Making Sense.
Tonight I did a little reminiscing and watched this 1984 Jonathan Demme production of the Talking Heads live at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood. God, I had nearly forgotten what a total uber-geek genius David Byrne is.

I love that song too. I am ashamed to say, though, that I've never actually seen Stop Making Sense. I HAVE seen True Stories. That was pretty funny. I have the image of Mr. Byrne sitting in that suburban house while asparagus is tossed at the ceiling. Odd.
Nice to finally see a whole cadre of Dems hitting back hard today. About damn time. This is going to be a no-holds barred slug fest. We need to get in there and mix it up. Give better than we get. This is too damn important. The high road is nice, but the slime-wad republican henchmen and the Liar-in-chief don't deserve it.

Didn't they quote Jimmy Carter in Penthouse saying that he still has a "little lust in his soul". Right on, if I'm right anyway.
Sorry man, I gotta take the low road. I've been off the political radar so I can't chime in there. I'm probably voting Kerry...so rest easy and leave me on your friends list.

Back to reality. The beach was wonderful as always. Plenty of sun and sand. Lots of cold adult beverages and lots of good food. A houseful of kids (well, some almost adults now) 6 cousins in all. The fishing was crappy, but that's OK. Pics to be posted soon.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but Schwartzenegger gave a very good speech. Didn't sway me or anything, and I'm not a fan of everything he said, but he delivered it well. Kerry better get back on the offensive; Bushie is scoring points.
Loved your Rangers/Flyers analogy.

Right before our 5th anniversary, Zippy and I took a trip to Maui. We stayed in the third top rated hotel/spa in the world. I took a day of beauty/girly shit.. sat in six different herb/mud baths, had an hour facial, had an hour massage and had my make up and hair done.. felt girly and pretty.. it was nice but I felt guilty for a week afterward.
