i was watching the real world paris and it struck me what a shame it was that such an annoying, petty group of people were let loose on such a beautiful city. i think that your stay there should have been videotaped and aired on tv. or at least posted as a video clip on the site. it would be a much better viewing experience.

The dinner with Linda was great. We had a really weird night. Apparently it was a blue moon night. She stayed over at my place and shared my bed. No sex. No hanky-panky. But it's been a long time since I've had someone to share a bed with. I miss it.

C9 is basically over now. As a whole, I think the majority of the people were unempressed. The problem remains, Vegas isn't the right town for the crowd. Rockabilly shows work great (Viva Las Vegas) and punk rock shows too, but the goth crowd needs a less neon and buffet food scene and more gardens, architecture and cafes. If that makes any sense. As I have said many times before, especially when I was still living in the bay area, Vegas is wrong. Do it in Seattle, or SF or something that has the right atmoshpere. I guess it's just that the people that organzed the first one were all from SF so the wanted to get the hell outta town.

Anywho... if you went I hope you enjoyed it. If not, don't worry, you didn't miss too much.

hmm...123? not ringing a bell. of course, i've only lived here for 8 months, and i'm not a huge night scenester. i like dancing, so i know of dempsey's brass rail, which is a decent enough club, and the closest you'll get to a dance experience around here. was it around when you were here?

other than that, i mostly dig coffee shops and pubs. oh, and far west, a billiards place. and the chair in my apartment.

So... you're into theoretical physics. Me too.

Well, based on my own personal experience, I would have to say that the original human duality lies in the human conscious being simultaneously seperate and indivisible from the integrated Universe. The division begins with humankinds' ability to percieve itself as being seperate from the Universe, and yet obviously no human can ever be truly seperate from the Universe, because the Universe is where we all live. Animals, for instance, must be an integral part of the Universe, because, without human self-awareness, they simply don't know any other way to be. On the other hand, those humans who recognize the integrated Universe must work extra hard to re-learn how to be a part of it. It's a Paradise Lost where humans want to have their cake and to eat it too, because in the process of evolving above the level of mere animals, humans have lost their inherent connection to the integrated Universe.

I assume we can agree that animals can't be affected from human dissociation, because without human emotion, they cannot suffer the same emotional trauma. This harkens to a book I've recently picked up, called Why God Won't Go Away, in which the author is demonstrating why (and how), despite all the scientific discoveries & explanations that have been made over the centuries, such a majority of people still refuse to give up on the their beliefs in a higher conscious power than themselves. Through his studies (among other things) of the brain activity generated by Buddhist monks meditating and breaking down their seperatness from the world, he's discovered that the same part of the brain that gives humans their self-awareness is also the same part of the brain that generates religion. That is, that because humans believe themselves to be greater than their environment, it "logically" follows that something else must be greater than them. It is impossible to be human without being pre-disposed to believing in a higher power. My point is, so too for dissociation-- it is impossible to be human without being subject to dissociation.

Therefore, from an integrated Universe perspective, I don't think that ego fragmentation contradicts the integrated Univerese at all, because ultimately, humans and all their self-awareness still ARE a part of the integrated Universe, whether they percieve themselves to be or not. Because dissociation evolved in an integrated Universe, it MUST be a part of that integration. I'm sure there are a number of different forms of dissociation, so I'm sure that it would be impossible to come up with one blanket generalized justification, other than to say that dissociation is an evolutionary device that allows humans to survive as humans in an integrated Universe.
