Even though I'm sure some time has passed I'm STILL sorry to hear of your skateboarding mishap. I was lucky enough to only lose a few yards of skin over the years, never anything major. A kid I grew up with got a compound fracture skating a ramp at home. Another friends mom busted up an arm trying to get on her sons board. All I have to show for it is a scar on one foot from skating in New Orleans back in 81.

I think there's some value in having kids a little late, though, when you're older and a little wiser. On the other hand, my parents had me pretty late, and look how I turned out.
