I wish just my room was a mess. I'm in the process of going through everything I own, getting rid of the stuff I don't want anymore, and organizing everything to actually have a place. It takes time to do all this, and seems like a bigger mess is made in the process, but I hope it will all be worth it in the end.

i believe they are supposed to give you a notice before they come up and inspect. i wouldnt worry too much, ive rented for a while now in places where pets weren't allowed other than fish....and ive heard dogs, cats, and even ducks in the apartment complexes.

I don't think any reputable landlord would just show up at your door.

When I took the apartment I live in they allowed no pets. A couple of months later I wanted to get a cat so I asked the landlord and although he was a little reluctant he agreed and I had to give him a little extra deposit. I think they're mainly concerned about damage.

Perhaps once it's a done deal you could ask your landlord about the cat and offer to give him an additional deposit. That usually works especially with a cat. This way you won't have to live in fear.
