You definitely need a different doctor.  Shrinks often have very useful insights, and so are worth listening to - but always with half an ear tuned to whether they've been listening to you.  Clearly this one isn't, and is instead more interested in imposing a standardized solution she's already decided on, which is never good therapy.  There's a reason they also call it analysis, and this chick hasn't analyzed shit.  Get someone who will.

I've been dealing with dysthymia since I was a teenager. For years, tried many therapist with poor results. Even more, in most cases I abandoned therapy because I really felt uncomfortable. I think it's normal to feel that, it's like when you get a boyfriend or a girlfriend, you need to find the right one. Have in mind that your therapist is a human being and everyone has its own personality and you won't have the same chemistry with each one.
