I got done reading the post on this board about the SG member who died in Iraq, and wanted to say thank you to everyone who posted there. I'm a soldier who's going on his 12th month stationed in Iraq, and it's been causing some wear and tear latety.

The …

I hope you get to go home soon. I will be back to California in about 17 days but they plan on sending me back out here again.

And you too! California misses you guys. Really, we do.

I--with my students--have been sending things through anysoldier...is there any way we can get stuff to you directly? Let us know what you need, even if it is just a good word or pictures of beautiful women...oh, wait...you have this through SG. smile Okay, anything else other than beautiful women? Be safe.

for anyone who kept up with it, or made it out... what were your overall thoughts?
personally i think it went far better than the rnc protests in philly. it seemed like there were always a few things going on all at once, so that even if the cops did …

the stories that did get media coverage we're really negative and/or complete shit. one story said that my friend daryle was the leader of the anarchists. i think the la times called him stocky and said that he was the leader of the a31 coalition. it was pretty funny.
everything else i read basically compared everything to seattle. i mean they were more afraid of the protesters than terrorists (yes, the rnc security admitted that).

Some thoughts,

Keep in mind first off that I am on the westcoast so I didn't attend. (wish I could)...

Visitord hit a lot of the issues right on the head with indymedia. I write for the Portland page often enough, and have noticed that infilitration is a major problem on the site. I had heard several reports of cops using IMC to find out about actions, and this is not surprising.

An idea though is that when the system goes high tech, it is this technology that is also it's downfall. Use the tech to spread disinformation, and good ol'fashion fliers, and word of mouth to spread news of an actual event. This works if the event is big enough, but not if it is small.

We as activists need to start throwing up more smokescreens that send the cops running around town in a confusing mess. Tell them that we are going to the next WTO meeting, and then show up four towns away, shutting that town down, while the riot cops from all over the country stand waiting...

The RNC was awsome though, it went well. It needed to be peaceful, and it needed to be calm. The reason? There was to much at stake in terms of discrediting the entire movement. The media was waiting for us to get aggressive.

I was also impressed that they didn't use the Miami FTAA tactics of crowd control (the "new model" for homeland security).

Anyway if anyone wants to talk more about this write the journal.

i don't feel like doing a news thing, but i think somebody should bring this up.

alan keyes is the guy who said that being queer is "selfish hedonism" and that chey's daughter was a sinner.

I thought the Q stood for questioning, as in questioning one's sexuality.

The definitions of these terms and abbreviations is very fluid. I have found that usage varies greatly in subcultures and even in geographic regions.
It is very possible that you ran into a group in which the 'Q' stood for questioning.

Transgendered, transexual, and queer, I think, should be defined by the person using them. None of them are labels I would apply to someone unless they had told me outright that they felt comfortable being called one or the other (or both...or every other combination).
