does anyone have experience with this? My dad owns a pool business and keeps saying that someone needs to start one doing this - I just thought I would put some feelers out there of what works and does not work!

I'm a huge fan of container gardens around pools. They offer so much flexability and can be refreshed pretty easily. I've never done any landscaping around a pool personally, but the ones I've seen have just been regular plantings - just like the pool is a giant water feature that people happen to swim in. I would just worry about reflected heat during the summer. I visited a landscape architect's house and his pool was surrounded by trees - so it felt more like a pond in the woods.
I'm assuming you mean swimming pools - but now that I've read some of these posts, I'm wondering if you mean something else?

no I meant swimming pools - and the major concern is the chemicals from the water splashing all around or the pool guy being careless and messy!

So today was super fun...we had another great storm today...and all the furniture from the pool deck, went into the pool. So I got to spend my evening fishing the pool furniture out of the pool. Now this might sound boring, however I got to ply with this really long pole(Yes, really long pole!!) and joust on the pool deck. Kind of boring tonight!
