i use a krypto mini, and it does its job. just never lock it in the same place, lock it wisely, don't leave the bike alone for too much time. the thing is, you want your bike to be unappealing for thieves...

I have a Kryptonite lock that I bought about a year ago. It's starting to stick when I go to lock and unlock it. I know the long-term fix is to stop leaving it outside to get rained on, but is there any way I can undo the damage done …

Oil works good. get a $1.29 can from ACE and put a couple drops in. Graphite helps in the winter because it doesn't stiffen up like oil.

Yeah I did that a while ago. Like I said, it eventually stopped working. I could pull it apart after removing the key, and removing the key took more effort than pulling the lock apart. Plus the plastic casing around the lock kind of exploded. What a piece of junk. Thanks for the suggestions dudes.

I took my saddle along with me when I went into bars etc. My one road bike was stolen without the saddle on it... I wonder what that ride was like for the douchebag... I hope my bike ass raped him on his jaunt home on MY bike

i live/ride in brooklyn and chinabus w/bike to philly a lot. my friends in west philly seem to just go kryptonite U maybe with the cable like DUG has above.
i've had wheels stolen when just using the U. I ALWAYS use the kryptonite NYC chain/lock and chain through both wheels when i'm locking up. my philly friends think it's overkill but i don't want to lose my bike and when i've not used it i've gotten shit stolen. i've never secured my saddle but i'm thinking about using a spare length of bikechain to secure the seat to the frame [a little better than old tubes which people also do] and just keep that there all the time.
if the chain is too heavy and carrying a couple Us around works out ok for you then maybe the long U for the rack through back wheel/frame triangle and then a smaller one to lock the front wheel to the frame or vice versa. something like that. i think reload has some small bags that make carrying u's easier too.
but if you've already got the big chain i think it's the best.
