This skin type can be super challenging since you have visible dryness and flaking with some rough patchy areas some areas may eve feel tight. SKin tone and texture are uneven and your skin over all may appear dull. Oily-Dry skin is not caused by environment, stress, diet or life style but by genetics. Environmental factors do tend to effect this skin type by making it appear even more dry and dull.
Daily Skin Care for Oily-Dry Skin
Cleanse - Avoids gels, bars and definitely avoid soap, you need the most gentle cleanser you can find.
Toner - If decided to use a toner look for one with humectants and apply it gently with a clean cotton pad.
Moisturizer - Choose a nutrient dense moisturizer and apply it morning and night .
Oily/Acne Prone Skin
This skin type can be a confusing one it doesn't mean you actually have acne or have struggled with it in the past in fact most people with acne prone skin have gorgeous complexions. All is means to have acne prone skin is just that you are slightly more likely to have acne problems and that you skin may need a little extra care. Acne prone skin may become inflamed easily from using skin care products or environmental stresses. Sometimes acne prone skin may seem to get sensitive for no real reason.
People with acne prone skin may need to exfoliate more often than other people because you skin wont shed dead cells as easily by it self allowing your skin to become keratinized. Be care though because you also don't want to over exfoliate, but I will talk more about that later.
There are six different levels of acne prone skin:
Level One - Non-inflamed. At the moment your skin is calm and smooth with no break outs, black heads or white heads.
Level Two - Oily with blackheads and white heads, you skin may appear shiny.
Level Three - Papules. Small bumps or pimples that are slightly elevated above the skin surface.
Level Four - Pustules. Bumps larger than papules that acontain pus.
Level Five - Cystic. Cysts currently under the skin surface that are larger than a pustule and become inflamed leading to scars.
Level Six - Active. This means everything listed above is happening all at once and can be active on both the face and the body.
Daily Skin Care for Acne Prone Skin
Cleanse - Look for products that contain salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide to help kill an eradicate bacteria. Cleanse only twice a day ( no more! no less!). Gel type cleansers seem to work best for this skin type or look for one marked for oily/acne prone skin.
Toner - Look for one that contains a humectant and if you feel it's needed one with salicylic acid. Apply with a clean cotton pad.
Moisturizer - Make absolutely sure your moisturizer is oil free. Tea tree oil is great for this skin type just make sure you don't over do it. Look for a moisturizer that is very light weight and contains ingredients like allantoin, cucumber, chamomile, amino acids and trace minerals.
If you have this skin type, periodic visit with a skin care profession for a facial may do wonders for your skin.
