He should be fine, of course. Robyn and I will just have to scrabble to pay for it. And I hope, but kind of doubt, that he's learned a lesson from this about getting into...

I hope he feels better soon, and the vet is kind to your wallet.

Wish him luck. He's a good cat.
Keep me posted.

also, how's the cat?

Election day, and I have no hope.
I fully expect the Republicans to retain power and continue to wreck the world, until all that's left are teeming billions of diseased, poverty-stricken cannibalistic religious fanatics reduced to selling their organs for pocket change to obscenely wealthy, pale-skinned cybervampires.
Which I suppose would at least make a good graphic novel (don't get too excited, I've...

Thinking about getting a job?
Don't DO it! Work is for chumps! Avoid it at all costs!
My advice? Find yourself a nice, partially-sane stripper to live with and act as your sugar mama while you "pursue your art"/"research your thesis"/"work toward finally getting that associate's degree"/"try to quit heroin." Pretty much you just...

Yeesh. I have no hope, of course.
Bwah?
So, back off with the frightening scenarios, man! Gah!
Yeah, I too am glad to see that others see the South as a national liability. I have a whole list of conditions we need to make the transition peacefully: all minorities and liberals should be granted the opportunity to move North and be given some kind of tax credit or moving bonus to cover their hardship. The last thing I want is to trap all the black people and progressives in Dixie with their redneck overlords. Also, if possible, the city of Austin should be a sort of West Berlin. We should airlift good books and vegan dinners to keep them alive, and broadcast openminded 'radio free austin' to woo the remnants of the civilized south who couldn't go north for family reasons or whatever. Alaska could go either way, so a referendum is needed. Utah should be given to Saudi Arabia.
ADDENDUM
Whoa. People care. I should probably be more aware of that.
I think it's still some shock from when they zotted Teh Mooch. I mean, the Mooch was totally out of line - but uncharacteristically so. I'd seen him take so much abuse before for his absurdly retrograde beliefs, and he'd always stay...

what has you so worried about this, anyways? insult a suicide girl lately?
and what's this about you being a slut? congrats on the new blog entry, too.

i dunno, seeing that the person who posted the guidelines for discourse in the CE is also zotted, i don't feel too bad about breaking those rules.
some people whine and say it's because we've been here longer, so that's either the truth, or the moderators have grown accustomed to our douchebaggery.
oh you slut.
Choke on it, then.
True - we aren't popular with racists and religious extremists....
An antisemitic Hindu I once knew thought that there must be a sinister reason why the Nazis, Arabs and Catholics hated the jews so much...that "the Jews must have done something" to anger them.
We did. We were "foriegn" (and I guess there were enough black people for racist bastards to pick on in Europe). We had different beliefs. Plus we were rich and we "killed Jesus".
But the things we agree on tend to get lost in hysterical overstatement regarding the things we don't agree on.
You're just gonna have to try and reign yourself in then, dear boy.
It's also true the Arabs have far more than their fair share of hysterical overstatement - and huge swaths of Arab culture are impervious to reason. But that doesn't justify similar behavior on our part.
To be honest, yes, I have mulled over the pros, cons and upshots of nuking mecca. Not as a random, preemptive act of genocide, but as a target if Islamists started nuking us. Or even as a "hinted" deterrent, if they threatened to nuke us.
We are under attack from a religion, not a country. What other sort of deterrent could there possibly be for suicide bombers?
It's a shit thing to think, but I'd rather we weren't put in this situation.
I'd rather not even have to think about nuking a religion's sacred places. All I want to do is get rich, get laid and get drunk. But if comes to it, I'd rather nuke Mecca than be forced to pray to it five times a day.
Okay - fine "Hysteria".
Hysteria is one thing, but I think apathy, naivity and blind optimism are even more damaging. We have to face up to the reality of this situation.
Some people don't seem to realise that we are at war. At war with a collosal enemy who are driven by a fervent religious belief. An enemy that relishes the idea of dying for their cause. They want to turn Planet Earth into a global Sharia Theme Park and nothing else will do.
Being nice to them won't stop their plans. Neither will caving in on foriegn policy, which is taken as a sign of weakness.
The only options we have are a)fighting them until they are contained or destroyed b)submitting to them c)dying.
I'm not talking about run of the mill, Western Muslims, here. They would be just as much a victim as the rest of us. Possibly worse off as they wouldn't have the "dhimmi" option.
I am talking about a global movement that has been steadily growing since the 1920's. Qutbism, the MB etc.
You can not negotiate with these people. Don't even think about it. They see this as a pure mission from God.
Hysteria? This is WW3 - well the start of it...and this time, we play for keeps.
About a month ago, my mom got a call from an animal shelter that found one of my cats that had run away/got lost/whatever 4 or so years ago. Apparently, some lady was taking care of a group of cats (but not doing a very good job) and turned them all in when she got tired of it. My mom picked him up from the shelter, got him his shots at the vet, and he died that same day. Fortunately, I wasn't there to witness any of this, so the impact on me was less than on her.
