When you put it that way, Chicago sounds pretty great. And yeah, I do like Santa Cruz, but I have definitely had times when I didn't. I think I'm able to be nostalgic about it because I've been gone for a while (and to a place that couldn't be more diametrically different). I was so ready to get out when I came to Scotland, but it wasn't long before I started to miss it. . . because of the weather and my friends and the comfort of knowing a place. . . all of which you'll have at home. So I commend your decision. It sounds like you know exactly what you want. Even if it means I won't have the pleasure of meeting you face to face.
So good luck on your journey. . . may there be red bull a-plenty and minimal falling asleep on the road.
