Just read about this today and it deeply saddened me.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/11/amanda-todd-suicide-bullying_n_1959909.html

Long story short: girl was severely bullied for very long and committed suicide because of it.

I hope she may be getting the peace she deserves not, and that her tormentors get the punishment they deserve.

It's time society stops treating bullying as "just something kids do" - there are too many people saying stupid stuff like "bullying doesn't exist" or "that's how kids toughen up". I take offense anytime someone says something like this. Bullying DOES exist and, no, it's not something that "makes kids tougher". Bullying may cause severe problems to the bullied person, both physically and emotionally. In some cases, it may end up tragically, like it did with this girl.

Bullying hurts, bullying kills. It's about time so many people stop thinking of it as something banal. It's about time schools (and, actually, not only schools - bullying happens even among adults, even though I wouldn't call a bully an "adult", regardless of his/her age) take strict measures to prevent bullying and help bullied victims. It's about time we do something definite about bullying.

I long for the day bullying will be something of the past and no longer something that hurts so many people.

I know how it feels to be bullied. In my case, it wasn't as bad as receiving threats of getting beaten up, but I know how it feels to be bullied. To be made fun of simply because someone dislikes you. To feel excluded and not have as many friends as others have. Some jerks once made a song about me, making fun of me, and they even played it during a school concert. Did the school do anything about it? They didn't do jack squat. I didn't either, which is something I regret nowadays - I should have stepped up and said "no, this is not acceptable and I want the school to stop this crap". Can't change the past, though, but I've learned from it. I once had a fotolog, a place where I'd upload pictures, many years ago... And some jerk commented on EVERY picture I posted, sometimes filling up the comments with him making fun of me. I tried to chance my fotolog account twice to get away from him, but it didn't work. Once, when I was a kid, the mother of one of the other kids was gonna throw him a huge birthday party and then told my mother she wouldn't invite me, because "I wasn't as good at soccer as the other kids" - even though my mother was the one who helped her when she was feeling down and talking about suicide, letting her kid sleep at our house while she dealt with her feelings.

This isn't about me, though. I survived and I'm glad to say all of this is now in my past. But it saddens me to know that there are still so many people like this girl suffering because others won't leave them alone.

Damnit.

Will finish this post with a song. Been hearing this song a lot lately.
