Happy Birthday to ME!
This week was good overall. I went to a new restaurant, Montmarte from a chef I used to work for, downtown with my friends I haven't spent time with in forever. One lives out in Jersey and the other works different days than me. So we had a bro-union if you will. Ordered way too much food and caught up about this and that. One of them leaves the end of this month for S. Carolina. I'll miss him but I'm happy he's pursuing new opportunities and his girl is supporting him and moving with.
On my actual birthday I did some shopping. Got great lunch at this funky place Grey Dog. It's a diner meets coffee shop..really eccentric but not absurd. Saw the Fuerza Bruta show which was like nothing I've seen before. If I did drugs it would have been nuts. THey essentially have an industrial kiddie pool suspended above you and there's choreographed routines. You're in a warehouse so it's a little raveish and they make you move around so you're not in the same place...super fun.
Dinner was at Gramercy Tavern. This is my always answer to "best restaurant in nyc". it's simple american that's delicious and friendly in a very comfortable space. Every time I go or check out their menu i say to myself "i would eat any of these. Even the specifically vegetarian dishes sound fantastic..." So good. THe best part was the redhead from all the Wendy's commercial was standing right by us at the bar for most of dinner. Random!
