Ok, so I tried to post this earlier and forgot to post it, closed the tab and lost it. Whoops.

In a previous blog I mentioned that my Dad had died unexpectedly this past July. It's something I haven't really come to terms with so I may write about it here from time to time in the hopes that it will help me deal with it.

I'm not going to get into too many of the details from that day, at least not right now. Just know that the police had to break the door in and once they were inside they found that my Dad a large gun collection which they took for "safe keeping". I was then told that all I needed to do to get them back was to go to the police department with a report number and they would give them back to me.

Well, that wasn't exactly true. There were several attempts on my part to get them back and each time I was told I had to do something additional. In the end, we (my sister and I) had to fill out some forms, pay $65 and go to court to essentially sue the police dept to get my Dad's property back. Please keep in mind that this was much more detailed the first time I wrote it and really expressed my frustration and anger with the police dept, but I just don't have the energy to get all the way into it now.

So we went to court last week, and everything went smoothly, but we weren't able to actually pick them up until today. And that went surprisingly well considered the run around I received for the last 3 months. So we picked up 13 handguns and 7 rifles, in addition to the 3 hand guns and 1 rifle that the police didn't find and I already had. And that doesn't take into account the 4 pellet gun rifles, 5 bb gun pistols, two bows and a crossbow that I also have. Which reminds me, if there is anyone in the Detroit area who knows anything about crossbows, or knows someone who does, please let me know, I need some assistance :)

So I'm really happy today that I was finally able to resolve this issue, it's given me a small bit of closure. Especially since I know that my Dad would be extremely unhappy to know that the police took his guns. So I'm glad I was able to get them back for him. The sad thing is that we are probably going to have to sell a number of them to pay off some of the outstanding debts to the estate. But I am going to keep a few of them. Which scares my Mom because I have two young children ( 2 and 4). But I've done my best to assure her that right now they are in a place where the kids can't get them, and hopefully by the time they are old enough to find them there won't be nearly as many and I'll have a better way to lock them up, which I plan on doing soon.

So today I've gone from someone who never owned a gun, not that I had an issue with them, I just never owned my own... to someone who has 13 hand guns registered to him, plus all the others that don't need to be registered.

So I guess I'm trying to say, when the shit goes down, come to my house... I've got ya covered. :)
