I was just thinking a few minutes ago about this girl I used to go to junior high and high school with.
Her name was Joanne, and she was a really sweet girl. She meant well. She was very smart, but she was tragically socially impaired. Moreso than I was. She wore huge old-lady glasses, and even though she wasn't really bad-looking, she wasn't that great-looking, either. But she had insanely big boobs. By the time we got to high school, she had at least learned that she should be wearing jeans and not stretch pants every day - it was certainly a vast improvement.
Anyway, Joanne was never really picked on in school, she was just kind of there. Everyone tried to be nice to her but she didn't really have any friends. I was sort of in the same boat myself - sort of.
I just remembered this morning that I used to watch this program on Nickelodeon called SNICK. Does anyone else remember that - Saturday Night Nickelodeon, where they played a few hours of nothing but Ren and Stimpy and Rugrats and the other Nicktoons?
Once at lunch this was somehow brought up and Joanne commented that she LOVED "Roundhouse" which was a show where a bunch of twenty-somethings ran around and sang and danced for an hour. I hated that show. It got on my nerves.
I just remembered the theme song today - because I always knew when I heard it that it was time to change the channel. And it made me think of how it was her favorite show and it made me sort of sad.
"Whenever life gets me so down,
I know I can go down, (heh)
To where the music and the fun never ends,
[I could never understand what they were saying here],
I know that I can find a friend,
down at the Roundhouse!"
God, how depressing. Poor Joanne. I hope wherever she is now she is totally gorgeous and taking over the world.
