I should be reading. Still have 250 pages to get through and I've hit the wall. No reading stamina left. But I still need to bullshit a response for class tomorrow! Crap. Doesn't help that I'm getting sick. Fucking cold or some such thing. To the literary nerds out there, Happy Birthday John Keats! To everyone else, Happy Halloween! We better get some sexy costume...

Your comment made me laugh so much! Oh, and the zombie kitty. That is just priceless.

So I got a little bit of validation at school today. We're discussing the short stories of Ambrose Bierce, focusing on The World at War, a collection of his Civil War stories. Now, I have two weeks to come up with a topic for my 15 page paper and had no idea what to do. So today we each have to talk about one of...

Okay, job front first. The job I might be able to get as a graduate research assistant is looking good. He's written the proposal and it looks like they'll get the funding they need. Plus my friend is reminding his boss every now and then that he should consider me for the job. So yeah, fingers crossed and all that.

School's moving along about the...

I feel some of your pain; tons of work and no social life. In fact, I consider SG my social life. Yeah, not very healthy. Is your insomnia a long-term issue, or is it just due to all the stress? Really hope you get the job. My fingers, toes and everything crossable is crossed already. ;)
user10131134:
Nooooooo, but you need to watch SHIELD!

Well, it kind of looks like I might get a chance to get one of two different jobs on campus. My friend works as a graduate research assistant for the Intelligence and National Security department, it's what he and his boyfriend are getting their master's degrees in. And apparently there is a potential opening as an office manager, which the description to me reads Office...

Congrats on the potential jobs, and so very sorry about the family drama. Sometimes I forget how easy I have it, what with living far away from my family. Mine have their moments, but it sounds like your family wins in the imaginary 'whose family is crazier' battle. I just hope that the jobs help with getting out of there. Living in that kind of environment is anything but healthy. Diablo 3 is cool, but it's nowhere near Diablo 2. I'm actually a bit disappointed.
arroia:
Nope! What you get is what you got, like it or not.

Okay, history books just aren't for me. I have no problem getting through a good hundred page book about an Indian doctor and his friendship with an English teacher in British India 20 years before they gained independence. But when you put a book of speeches given by Abraham Lincoln or the personal memoirs of U.S. Grant down in front of me it just become...

I feel nice and stupid. I spent all day yesterday reading a 400 page book for today's class. I had to run out and buy a cheap printer to print out my response, ended up finishing kind of late. So today before I left for class I happened to look at the syllabus when I was packing up my stuff to take to class, and...

Ouch man, that is some rough stuff.

Castle has that way of doing that. I really like that show.

Bioshock Infinite is a pretty awesome game. I like he narrative, but wish I could explore it a bit more. Hope you like that one!

And thanks!

Okay. This is going to be one of those weeks where I wonder why I'm an English major, procrastinate reading more than I should considering how much reading I have, and contemplate just driving as far away from my life as my gas tank will get me. Because at some point during the 1000 pages you have to read for class, you start asking why...

I sometimes feel the same, though my hermit-like way of life is mostly self-inflicted. I'm in my gaming phase at the moment, though. It's either Assassin's Creed or goddamn Candy Crush. That thing is EVIL! blackeyed

Maybe you just revealed the key to getting yourself out of this cycle?

I suggest getting some of your reading material on audio books and taking it in as your drive.
I also suggest making your reading into a social activity. Discuss it with others, join a book club, that kind of thing.

I hope things get better for you soon!

Wow, this semester is gonna be rough. Basically spend every waking minute reading for class now. Just finished Jane Eyre for the 4th time. Still a good book, this time we're looking at it from a post-colonial angle instead of the usual Victorian literature angle. So what's next on the reading list for class tomorrow? Battle-Pieces. Oh joy, more god damned Melville. At least it...

I'm now convinced that regardless of sexual orientation, the goal of a friend's significant other is to keep them from seeing their friends. One friend met his girlfriend and then disappeared. Now he doesn't even text anymore. The other friends met his boyfriend and has slowly been pulling away. He has to lie to his boyfriend to hang out with me. And no matter what...
