My grandmother has been making tortillas since before I was born. I've always loved her tortillas, I could eat tons and tons of the damn things. When I started cooking, years ago, I started asking her for her recipe. I wanted to know how to make them as good as she does. She always said that she didn't remember. One time, she gave me the...

When I was 16, I was learning how to cook from my mother, who is a recipe cook.  My dad's mom couldn't cook much any more because of her health, so I volunteered to go over and help her cook.  She was an old world cook and rarely used recipes.  We made all sorts of things together and I learned all the tricks to her recipes.  Years later, when she passed, my sisters and cousins fought over her recipe book, but I didn't need to, because I knew it all already.  Plus, her recipe book was incomplete. Haha.  I think you should just suggest to your grandma that you'd like to carry on her legacy. If she still refuses, then keep experimenting until you make them better than her.  Lol.
wolfwood1203:
@fredhincanada I'm going to have to go the experimentation route.

Well... shit. Time really has a way of getting away from us, doesn't it? My oldest niece turned 18 this year, and tomorrow she leaves for college. Natural progression of things, I'm well aware of that. But damn, this sucks. I had already lost them to a degree when they moved out, but now they're getting older and moving away for college and stuff. I'm...

It's ok to be sad.  All things must come to an end and it gives you a place to grow something new.
wolfwood1203:
@fredhincanada The real trouble is, they had become a reason to keep going. Now that they're gone, I need to find a new reason.

I just tested positive for covid, hooray... Hopefully it's like the first time, and I mainly just feel fatigued from this.

So here's a thing @headshot (love you!) tagged me in. I don't like tagging people for these, so just feel free to do it yourself if you're interested.

*Age - 38

* Favorite pie - pumpkin pie

* Steak or seafood - usually steak,...

Steak and Pumpkin Pie.  Man, it's 12:30 in the morning here.  Where am I going to get Steak and Pumpkin pie at this hour now that you've made me crave it?  lol.  And yes on the person who gets up early!
wolfwood1203:
@fredhincanada I guess you've got dinner ideas now?

I usually tend to use this blog as a place to vent about all of the negative things in my life. The last one being a good example of that. But I think it's also important to talk about the positives. Which I'm admittedly not so great at doing…

First off, I still love the community that you can find here, even if it's not...

You can definitely message me, but I may be slow to respond. Life has been very hectic and overwhelming for me lately. 😔
wolfwood1203:
@cerebus666 Thanks, I appreciate it. Hopefully you're right about future best seller.

I know that people get busy, get caught up in their own lives. But by the gods I hate that it always seems like everyone drops off of the face of the world all at once.

Not going to lie, it really saps the motivation to keep working. I know it shouldn't, but it does. I don't hear from friends or family much anymore. I...

I’m 3/4 of the way through and I’m enjoying it. I fully intend to finish and feedback. I know you weren’t referring to me, but I wanted to say something regardless.
wolfwood1203:
@fredhincanada Well, I do appreciate that.

But I'm still a work in progress. This one is not going to put me in a flattering light.

Everybody gets jealous. There's no denying that. But whenever I heard about people my age doing well for themselves, especially people I used to go to school with... I would get sent into a suicidal, depression spiral.

I know how petty that sounds. But there was...

I’ve been there! Dokkodo teaches that you can’t compare yourself to another because everyone’s path is different, composed of entirely unique perspectives & experiences. We only see the present & the surface, not the past or the interior. People are like icebergs, what you can see is almost nothing of what is. Jealousy is energy wasted, better to spend it on yourself, are you better than yesterday? Yes 👏 keep up the good work! 🍀
wolfwood1203:
@skisby Rationally speaking, I know that it's stupid to compare myself to others. I know that it just leads to negativity. But unfortunately, we're not always rational beings. However, I'm working on it. And I certainly don't give those thoughts and feelings as much energy as I used to.

Not really sure how else you can see this, so I figured I'd just put it in a blog.

Searching for ideas about what style I was hoping for, I did find an image that I think is what I'm after. I believe it's an AI generated image, and obviously I'm not after this exact image. But I think the style would lend itself to...

@jaws318 It's called The Ones Left Behind. I've posted about it here before, but it's probably easier to get an idea what it's about on my Instagram page.
fredhincanada:
I love everything about this post and comments. @jaws318, way to go!

I'm just curious, but does anyone know any good artists who don't charge too much? I need a cover for my novel if I'm going to publish. And I have absolutely no artistic talent to speak of.

@jaws318 Thanks, I'll check out your work, and maybe I can send you the reference picture to hear your thoughts.

@wolfwood1203 I’ll help how ever I can.

I've been over this before, to the point that it might be becoming obnoxious... but I started an Instagram page to promote my novel. But along side giving information about the story, I also decided that it might be good to share my own personal story. So, a few of the posts I've made talk about things that I've been through that led to the...

First off, I need a big thank you to @cerebus666 Without his generosity I wouldn't be back here for who knows how long. So thank you, my friend. Everybody go praise @cerebus666 he deserves it.

I'm honestly glad to be back. I missed it here more this time than I have in the past. It's like I've got a little piece of home back. Kind

Damn, has it already been a year? Well, you all have made it a pretty good year all things considered. Thanks for taking an interest, and for cheering me on to keep writing. I'm sure I'll come back someday. But for now, I guess it's time to say goodbye.

For now, one last shameless plug... If you want to keep in touch, let me know...

Damn.  Is a year up already?  That makes me sad.  I want you to stick around!  SG is better with you here, my friend.  We will talk on Instagram more, yeah?

@fredhincanada Yeah, it really sucks, but what can I do? And as you say, there's always Instagram.

Haven't blogged in a while. Still writing. Well, more accurately, still editing. Still pushing my Instagram, please check it out if you haven't. I'm trying to find an audience for my novel. Even though it feels shitty having to self promote so much. I'm just really not used to doing much more than hiding myself away, fading into the background and such. I'm trying...

Have you thought of travelling to towns to do book reads, followed by you making pizza and watching anime?  Lol.  Because I would be in!  Those look delicious.  What anime were you watching?
wolfwood1203:
@fredhincanada My friend gave me his Crunchyroll password, so I've been watching a lot actually. I think that weekend I was watching So I'm a Spider, So What?
