Its all about Balance

I was totally off balance today in my dance class. Physically and emotionally. I can't remember the last time I did something that made me so self-concious and tingly off balance. It highlights the fact that I am aware of how much I am an utter beginner in something for once. My huge brain likes to tell me that I am...

In Terms of Movement...

Wow... So things _are_ apparently starting over again. I
have heard quite a few I- realized- I -was- into- girls- when- I- had
a- crush- on- my- dance- teacher- stories...

So today I started my bran-spanking (yum...spanking) new
modern dance class. The dance teacher was taking role
and talking about the class while crouching, sitting and
crawling around on the floor...

mtlqueen:
Hey to you too...so glad to hear you're doing something new and fun (isn't glad a funny word?) I love poking fun at really bad "conceptual dance", but when modern dance is really good, it's sublime. I just saw a beautiful piece performed here in Toronto before Christmas, the movements were so perfect I can't even begin to describe it...sort of rooted in ballet, but with a really pared down aesthetic, and very sensual. The enormous stage was beautifully lit, had a gauzy curtain hung horizontally across the top like a canopy, and it "snowed" lightly the entire performance. I really lost myself in that one.

MOVEMENT! biggrin

Is the world shrinking or expanding ?

A long- time aquiantance, nearly awesome friend is moving to
NYC tomorrow. We hung today and talked like we never had
before. We never tried previously for all the natural and wrong
reasons that on some level boil down to just poor timing.

The classic she was "a friend of the ex's" that somehow put
just enough distance...

In Danger of Boredom

Its a sad thing when you have plans for the evening and on
some level feel pent up in your room and bored with no excuses.

I even got the room clean and made some home additions - all
while being consumed by boredom. Yikes.

Oooh Oooh I heard of a study where they watched for alpha wave activity
(The brain wave activity that you have when you are most suggestive)
by wiring subjects to a tell-you-what-to-do-vision that shut off when it
caught you in alpha state... No one could keep the TV on for more than
30 seconds.

Ahh scientific oral tradition in action...
flakaseagulls:
no WAY. that's too fucking awesome. it'd be funny if they did that with different shows - like history channel vs. mtv or something. i know me i'd last like 2 seconds if i was lucky. although imagine how obnoxious that's gotta be like "hey that's my favorite commerical! what are you smoking that's horrible to shut it off like that! come on!"

Flying or Bound ?- A treatise on birthdays and history.

I woke up today wondering if I would really identify
with being 30 finally. No. Apart from friends who say 30 isn't
not bad that its 31 the really gets to you., I just end up
mystified at the flow of thoughts that remind me that I have
crossed some threshold.

Society wants to make...

rednaxela:
hey, happy birthday! good thoughts on this. i especially agree about history informing, not enforcing the present. you are free, but only to the extent that you know yourself. and there are so many layers to be peeled away--of others' expectations, social norms, and your own internalized versions of these, on the road to self-knowledge. then you learn that it's not a process that ends, the peeling away, except when you arrive at nothing in the middle. and then you start again.

on a lighter note, someone told me (a week before my 30th birthday) that you go to heaven when you turn 30. and, cheezy as it sounds, it really helped. like i'm going around again, but on a different plane. enjoy the ride, at least.

and thanks for your poetic thoughts on anonymity/honesty (and the surprise visit)!

Hmm.. Peeling away. I like that imagery. I am reading this interesting
book about the mind by this Kundalini practitioner whom posits that
we don't nec. peel away parts of our mind in the way, but that by categorizing
the aspects of perception we are better able to cope with them.

I completely agree with habituation and past all contributing weight keeping
one from being entirely flexible and spontenious and seeing them for the
past they are can help keep them from owning your present and future.

Thxnks for dropping by!

Considering that my self-proclaimned occupation (is there any
other way?) is irritant I figured I might just join the journal fray
by occasional snarky comments and maybe *gasp* even some
self exposure[1].
