I've been in an unexpected metal mood all day, and listening to a Spotify radio station I made based on Maiden's The Trooper.

It's been really great. A lot of Dio, Judas Priest, Blue Oyster Cult, and obviously Maiden. It's stuff I'd classify closer to the "serious" side of the metal spectrum, far away from the hair bands, which live way down on the other end of my spectrum, closer to "outrageous". It only ran aground on AC/DC once. It's eerie how well it knows what I wanted to hear.

Like, right now? Bam. Children of the Grave. It's like it heard me typing, did whatever Art Bell bullshit all the computers do when we aren't looking, and was all, "Hey, I played you some really great Sabbath, too, so you better mention that."

Well played, Spotify.

Anyway, I was playing Mr. Do!, (as one does) while this playlist got me one waffle cone away from recreating the arcade in my hometown.

I was feeling nostalgic, which I guess made me a soft target when it played Highway Star, by Deep Purple, and I recalled that there was a time in my life when I could 5 star that song on Expert in Rock Band. And not, like, once. I could do it consistently. There was a minute back then when I was *really* good at Rock Band. I don't usually miss it, or then, but I'm really enjoying the memory of playing that song with my son, Ryan, when he was home from college for a visit, over a decade ago.

I try my best to live in gratitude, and right now, I'm ... grateful for metal?

Really? Grateful for Metal? The world's on fire and we're going with that?

Yes! Grateful for metal! I'm going with that. I'll take little bits of joy wherever I can find them, and today, metal brought me joy.
