Am I the only person who sees how awesome this looks?

Apparently.

But here's what I once said about Superman, and this is why I'm looking forward to this:

A regular complaint I've heard about Superman: "Superman's too much of a boy scout to be interesting".

Isn't that the whole point? That while Batman represents the dark side of heroism (loneliness, angst, mental distress), Superman represents the hope and dream of having superpowers. That he represents the best of mankind. The way comic book movies have gone -- what with Marvel's comics usually centered around drama that the core audience of teenage boys would connect with, and Batman having always been on the darker end of the spectrum of heroes (save for the "save the character from being put out of business by comics detractors" years), all comic book movies following the original Superman movies kind of went for the angst-ridden, complicated, dark story. It makes for great, drama, yes, but these stories aren't Superman stories. Superman is a fun superhero, a hero whose problems aren't something physical (at least until Kryptonite comes along), but usually emotional. He can get jealous, he can be sad, he can lose sight of his mission in a fit of anger. Too much can be put on his shoulders, and that's where the fault lies. Superman's weakness is expectancy to be the perfect superhero. I think Singer's hit that in this -- he's made sure that Superman is Superman, but that he's still got emotional distress in his life. He doesn't have Lois Lane, but he's still in love with her. And she's got this kid walking around, and she's moved on past him, and while he's weak, Luthor strikes. It seems so simple, but so is most remembered mythology.

A movie that asks the question: do we need a hero? Is this world too far gone? Can too much change in a person's life? How do you handle that?

That seems much more interesting than most everything that seems to be going on in X3. But that's just me.
