every funeral should be like the one i attended today. my grandmother and aunt both died last year but it wasn;t until today that their cremated remains were put to rest. the extra time allowed everyone to grieve in private and then joke and swap stories about the deceased at the cemetary. it was raining today and a cousin joked that my grandmother wouldn't mind the idea of being planted in a muddy hole as she was an avid gardner and loved to get dirty. then it was spending the rest of the day visiting with cousins and aunts and uncles and catching up on the latest family news. like my cousin who opened up a christian bookstore in three rivers. my cousin diane and i stopped in to see my cousin rhonda who owned the store as we were nearby and i wanted to see the store. i bought some christain themed vanilla mints ( Scripture Mints, made in the shape of the christian fish symbol ) odd looking, but damn tasty.
theni spent the evening with my twp remaining aunts, one an ultra-christian, the other the yougest and the family smartass. i tried to be the good nephew and not laugh too hard listening to them banter/argue about everything. i wish i had a tape recorder to catch it all. classic stuff....
now to do my own reflecting and remeber the woman who helped raise me ( my grandmother) and the aunt who was more like your best friend.
