Story of the day....................
So - how was the football game you ask?? Can you say....................
BIG HUGE RECRUITING DRIVE?!?!?!?!?!?

Yup - that was the main objective of yesterdays football game. Not that I didn't have fun - there are some crazy people who show up to these games
but here is the definition of irony for you:
Picture myself (an ARMY Medic) standing out in front of a Jet Engine (where I was told to stand) and hand out AIR FORCE stickers, tattoos etc and answer any questions the public may have had in reguards to what we do on our base. Sounds rather simple right? I thought that since I had a big ol red cross on my arm that people would get the hint as to what my job was. WRONG! I lost count as to how many questions I was asked in reguards to said Jet Engine and other questions about flying. Hmmmmm funny - If I was a memeber of the public I woulda asked the guys in the flight suits such questions. Oh well - thats ok - I guess the Pilots there were asked questions about the ARMY too that they couldn't answer.
I think the best part about the whole recruiting stuff was when I got asked my first question about the Jet Engine and my answer was "well you see - the pilot pushes a button and then the engine starts and goes VVRROOMM!!" Poor guy - thought he was gonna piss his pants laughing
Well - after all of the recruiting stuff happened we were herded to the gate of the field, did a mock war (ARMY vs NAVY
), and then marched smartly onto the 50 yard line
We stood there and saluted as O Canada played and as that was happening, we watched on the jumbo tron clips of our brothers and sisters working over seas - it was at that moment where the announcer broke the bad news to the crowd about the 4 more soldiers that died yesterday during a mission gone bad. I never thought I would be able to hear a pin drop with thousands of people crammed into one stadium
but thats how quited it was....very scary. Anyways - after the anthem was sung and the announcement was made, 6 of my boys (2 Snowbirds and 4 Harvard II pilots) did a fly by and no matter how often I see them fly over the base, I'll never get tired of seeing them do fly bys cause I get all proud like a mother when they get to show off their skills
Once the game started, thats when people really started to ask questions and give their opinions of what was going on over seas. At the end of the day I was kissed, hugged, had my picture taken, proposed to, my hand was shook so many times that it is raw today, offered countless drinks (which I woulda killed for a beer but we were ordered not to drink in uniform) and even made a man about my age cry because when he asked if I would ever go to Afghanistan and I told him that I volunteered to go, he said that he felt like a coward. I just told him that the job wasn't for everyone and whatever job he did needed to be done here for the people of Canada. It is days like yesterday that make this job all worth it. To hear the warm comments and appreciation that people have for out military really touches the heart
Anyways - enough babbling today - hope everyone had a great weekend

Kisses
