Story of the day......................
The term Grounded refers to the status of a pilot who is unfit to fly an aircraft, ride as a passenger in an aircraft and operate in a flight simulator.
People who can "Ground" a pilot:
a) The pilot can self ground if they know that they are sick, fatigued or distracted from their flight mission.
b) Medics such as myself.
c) Flight Surgeon.
People who can "Unground" a pilot:
a) Flight Surgeon..........thats it - thats all
So I get this little Italian pilot into the hospital today to get a "Fit Chit" that says he is good to take a G Force course No problem - it only takes a minute....that is unless you discover that this particular pilot has been "grounded" for 3 weeks 
"Ummmm - Sir? Did you know that you are still Grounded right now?
"I know - I didn't have time to come in before I went on my cross country flight"
I didn't know weather to laugh or yell at the poor boy cause he looked so proud of himself for realizing that he should have come in but he insisted that he "Self Ungrounded" There is no such thing 
Luckily everything was ok and he didn't crash into the ground at any given time during his grounded phase. He now holds the record for most flight time in a "Grounded" status (the last record was a week) 
Some times I wonder about the future of the air force (foreign and domestic)
