it's difficult to keep from becoming a cynic. unfortunately more and more people take the easy route, and aren't genuine... but there are still good people out there. you dont necessarily have to become an asshole to protect yourself but you do need to know where to draw the line so that people don't take advantage of you. it's also important to cut out toxic people and emotional "vampires."
