This weekend I was talking to a young woman I met a few weeks ago. She is Cambodian and a chef who specializes in the cuisine of her homeland. Her father was a child soldier in the Khmer Rouge, forced to kill people against his will. One day he declined to kill a woman and they later married--her mother. She hosts popup kitchens to raise money for a Cambodian charity. She also caters private parties. She said she was doing this with a friend recently for a client in Connecticut. A musician, her co-worker said, but she didn't recognize the man's name. (She has not lived here long and doesn't know much about popular culture.) She said the dinner was for him, his wife and children. He looked very old, "like 100 years old!" she said and he chain-smoked the whole time she was there. What was his name, I asked her. "Keith Richards."
