This journal update brought to you by the letter "F", for FedEx, and the number "15", for how many minutes the FedEx guy leaned on my freaking doorbell this morning as I was trying to sleep off a roaring hangover.
Last night was my friend Dave's 37th birthday. Yes, all my friends are a fair bit older than me. We went to Blue Star, a great seafood/raw bar spot on Court Street in Brooklyn. Ordered the Mermaid Parade appetizer, which is 12 oysters, 8 giant crab legs, 18 clams, and 12 shrimp. It was gone in approximately 3 minutes. Yum. Had a seared tuna entree, which was good, but didn't begin to compare to my own. I'm of the opinion that seared things shouldn't be encrusted, as it increases the cooking time, which kind of kills the purpose of the searing. Also, it dries out the fish. Give me a slab of tuna, lightly marinated, seared maybe 5 seconds each side, just enough to get warm on the inside, and I'll be happy.
Spent most of yesterday painting my room a bright yellow/orange. I kind of suck at painting walls, so I need to do another coat, but I'm out of paint and whatever, it looks okay for now. Going to do the trim in a terra cotta red. Should be nice. Sort of desert-y. I've never had a yellow room before. We'll see if it makes me happier.
I've managed to find a wireless network, if I sit in the kitchen by the window, which is nice. Now I don't have to buy drinks to get online.
There are about 8 cats in my new backyard. I've been feeding them, and I want to bring them all inside, as it's rapidly getting cold and gross out, but I think my roommates would object. I just hate seeing them out there in the rain. They're all in good health, though, as far as I can tell, and their coats/ears/paws seem to be in fine shape, so they've probably got some kind of shelter under someone's house.
Tonight is maybe poker, then my friend Tye's birthday.

so yeah, I guess I'm sticking with white for now. Where did you end up moving to? Not the warehouse, right?
a friend of mine makes the most fantastic seared tenderloin. She crusts it with just salt and pepper and some light marinate, then slap slap on the pan, and oy, heaven in a piece of beef. I like crusted seared stuff. crunchy is good. mmmmm crunchy.
i carded a 38 year old last night. I'm pretty okay with that.
That description of dinner made me really hungry. I haven't had good seafood for a while.
And yeah, france was great. I love going there, I just wish I could have stayed longer. Great food and wine, beautiful women, what more could you ask for?
Oh yeah - and I don't know if you're interested, but I have a group of people who I play poker with fairly regularly. either $10 or $20 buy in, tournament style hold 'em. It's pretty fun. I can let you know if you want in the next time we're playing.
