I hadnt hear of those incidents before...its sickening, people can be so disturbed. I can understand the basics of such thought patterns- people believe in something very strongly, theyre prepared to do whatever they must to attract the public and media attention to their cause because in the world as it is, youll have to go a long way in order to be noticed at all; but still, if theyd really hold the places holy, I dont think theyd be able to act in such a short-sighted and violent manner. Fire safety at my place of employ consisted of "Sparky" the firedog handing out little goodie bags of candy and 9 volt batteries.... and the safety coordinators of each shift blindfolded volunteers to watch and time their progress to the exit. I'm told that some people nearly knocked themselves out careening off filing cabinets.

Re: Writing. I have 26/28ths of a shitty fantasy novel in the rough draft phase, but mostly I write short stories. Disfunctional or unhealthy relationships (between spouses, friends, familiy, etc.) tends to be the underlying theme behind most (if not all) of what I do.
Re: Laptop. I'm wedded to my computer. Almost all of my alone time is spent in front of a screen. I've accepted that, so now that I have a small, light notebook I go out to coffee shops, bars, etc. and work on revisions instead of sitting at home playing crappy video games.
