It has been an INSANE week. Preparing for leaving on deployment and partying with few pauses. A craaaaazy friend of good friends flew in from Maine and took over our circle and city for a week. All I can say is that there were costumes EVERY night and much alcohol consumed. I was the token straight groom in a fake-lesbian wedding....pulled away from important administrative...

Been so busy getting ready to go. Went from being gone from my unit for almost to a year to back into a mother hen position and I'm chasing around after a bunch of little chickens squawking and running in circles. It's not all bad.
The biggest pain in the ass is just getting the administrative crap done...paperwork...more paperwork...and getting my stuff squared away...remembering who...

Honestly, I don't know. It's nice to see my parents again, but I got two bullshit parking tickets in two days thanks to my California plates, which (while sounding trivial) was a sharp reminder of why I left this town and state in the first place - the greedy, suffocating city government in all its' forms - the hated, corrupt, GOP patronage-hack parking authority; the crooked Dem machine-led zoning board, the multitude of punitive city taxes, fees, and permits required of small businesses, the petty incompetence of the city Licenses and Inspections agency, the GOP-led state government that single-handedly killed the film industry here overnight when they revoked the tax credits and put hundreds of people out of work permanently... I'll take all of the above for $2,000 Alex.

It leaves a sour taste in my mouth and brings back a lot of bad memories of the years of fighting the city when I ran my shop here, trying to do right by customers and comply with truckloads of city red tape.

Had a great first weekend back with the Marines. Back with my old unit despite all my attempts to switch jobs over the last year. Just feels like the right place to be right now anyway. Had some of my guys from before still there, just a year older and quite a few new faces, boots ie young kids just out of initial training. New...

The drive from Florida back to Texas was..fun? We got a bit of a late start with cleaning out my friend's apartment and getting things loaded so we stopped in Gulfport, MS after about ten hours on the road. Got some food and a motel room and passed out. The drive wasn't too bad once we got going on the highway. The 22' truck and...

You can thank me by coming back intact, man. And a road trip to Portland may just do you some good- I can pretty much guarantee you won't pay for a single damn drink. wink

You better give me your address when you get over there so I can send you care packages once I am done with MY deployment!!

Full day ahead. have to be up before dawn to drive to Austin and have a Marine-y meeting and then back down to San Antonio to catch a flight to go hang with a good friend in Florida and help her load and drive the moving truck back to Texas. but only after a couple days of lounging on the beach and drinking rum-drinks first!

I didn't get a chance to comment on your last entry (whee, international travel), but wanted to tell you I'm glad you're okay from the laydown. I'd be okay if you never actually did anything crash-esque again. Just sayin'.

Anyhoo, you seem to be recovering from that in the best way possible. Umbrella drinks solve a lof of the world's ills. kiss

took me seven years, but finally managed to have my first motorcycle "crash". (yay me) really low-speed lay down. Bike took more damage than me, all of it minor and cosmetic. Here's to another seven years....or more...I could handle more...
