getting shot at sucks.
getting mortared sucks even worse.
everyone's holding up pretty well. lots of things going on.

It's hard to get a good night's sleep, even inside the wire on the base. the ever-present sounds of helicopters and jets taking off from the nearby airfield (whose flights paths seem to always take them directly over my tent) and the firewatch and bullshit working parties you get woken up at 1am to do because some one forgot to take care of it earlier...

interestingly enough, quite a few people from here are out in black rock city nevada voluntarily playing around in the desert and getting covered in dirt and dust too. I don't imagine anyone is shooting at them though. Hope it stays that way for you. Be safe man

just got back from iraq two weeks ago
just keep your head in the game, and nothing can happen to you
don't get used to it, it keeps each mission fresh and exciting...remember, you can never "been there, done that" enough
time can drag over there, but on the other end, you will look back and think "where did the time go?"
