It's hard to get a good night's sleep, even inside the wire on the base. the ever-present sounds of helicopters and jets taking off from the nearby airfield (whose flights paths seem to always take them directly over my tent) and the firewatch and bullshit working parties you get woken up at 1am to do because some one forgot to take care of it earlier in the day. and to that last night the WHUMP WHUMP WHUMP of mortars landing on the base, somewhere distant to where I was but still loud enough for a groggy "what the fuck?" followed by a more wakeful "what the FUCK?"
so yeah, sleep is in short supply. nap nap nap whenever you can. that's the Marine Corps way. forget the gung ho stuff. that's just what we do in between naps and chow.
going out sometime soon so I'll be away for a couple weeks. I'll let y'all know how it all goes when I get the chance'
take care youse!

Stay safe dude. I'm going to visit dave_h tomorrow at Pendleton on my way down south. Hope conditions aren't too awful over there and that you're dealing alright...sounds like you are. SGSF wants you to hurry back.
