guess it's been a little while so I can update this thing. Not a whole lot going at the moment. Just a small number of good things. I've been doing a little job hunting. I'm not stressing over it too much. There's a lot of work in town right now and I'm fairly guaranteed a couple jobs if nothing else works out. Mostly I've been lounging around...staying up really late...until is early and then even past that. I've been going out and just riding around on the motorcycle which is always fun.
This weekend was the Republic of Texas Bike Rally here in Austin which is a huge thing. I remember it was going last year right when I left to go train in California for Iraq. It was fun. I avoided most of the events...I'm just not a crowd person and the fact is, while I have nothing against most...er..ok quite a few of them...the rally is inundated with Harley Riders.
Harley Riders can be really cool. They can also be total asshats. Especially if you are not a Harley Rider, which I am not nor do I ever intend to be. First..I'm just not a cruiser guy. not my thing. and if I was...I'd probably go with something that runs just as well but doesn't cost as much...like a Honda or Kawasaki. I think they look nice, but I'm just not a super chrome, straight pipe, studded leather kinda guy.
I'm the street sport touring likes going a little too fast and falling effortlessly into back country turns kinda guy.
so anyway. I roll up with a friend to this one thing before the Cowboy Mouth concert. And the area we are in is surrounded by Harleys. no big deal. we park. some guy with his leather vest and dorag...probably an opthamalogist...starts snickering at my "lightweight" 1100cc ride and my buddy's 600cc sport. I figure he's drunk when he starts going on at length about how Harleys are the only *real* bikes and only *real* riders ride Harleys.
Even some of the people around him are getting embarrased, but of course he's making new friends with his speech. then he starts talking about how he put all this "work" into his bike, buying aftermarket chrome this and billeted that and how you can't do that with those Jap bikes and Jap bikes are foor sheep.
I think the comment I finally made to him was that he needed to get his dick out of the tailpipe of his trailered shiny toy and actually try and go riding it for more than four days a year.
his small crowd didn't like that and suddenly we're the interloping assholes.
anyway..we moved somewhere else and still caught the cowboy mouth concert. I hadn't seen them live since I lived in New Orleans.

today I woke up kinda early...considering I didn't fall asleep until almost 5am. and went for a ride out in the hill country. lots of bikes out. I guess a lot of people heading home from the rally. all were pretty friendly.
also did some maintenance on the bike and helped a buddy out with his...just getting the wheel off and back on so he could get to some stuff. got good and sweaty. I even wore the coveralls I got in Iraq for working on Humvees with. wore 'em with the red Snapple hat I got from my mom. it was fun.

got home and got my last piece of furniture that I had to put together. It's this AWESOME javawood end table I'm keeping next to the bed. It has rattan sides and this inner shelf with slats so I can put my powerstrip under it and run the power cords up through it and charge my mp3 players and phone out of sight and I'm using it right now to set my laptop on...since my new computer is still broken. NOW they are sending me a new motherboard and a tech to install it. So...even though I know the problem is most likely the power source, they will have sent me a new hard drive a new video card (Nvidia gforce 6200 no less) and now a new motherboard. if I keep this up I can build a whole nother computer.

but all in all things are going well. I just ordered a pizza at 1:15 in the morning. I love Austin.
I shouldn't be eating it though. I haven't worked out at all since I've been back from San Francisco...other than the hiking and stuff, but I ate so well on my West Texas trip and the way my body works is I put on fat pretty damn quick. I also lose it very quick, but it required me to actually get off my butt and go run and work out a couple times a week.
so I'll start doing that again this week too. I still have access to the base gym and track.

and I've been talking to a girl. she's awesome. I haven't enjoyed talking to anyone this much in a while. I don't know exactly what will come of it, but it's at a nice stage...if we can just maintain it long enough to actually meet up and spend time together...I dunno. I haven't thought about this kind of stuff in...well...years.
