hi everybody. just me again. Not too much to talk about right now. I had this weekend off and spent it mostly hanging out with the guys from the platoon. I haven't seen most of them for a few days since I came out of the field early to start my language classes. The language classes are going pretty well. I'm picking it up as we go without too much trouble. I've learned yet another alphabet and can do a decent job of reading Arabic (even if I have no idea what 99% of the words mean). We're doing about nine to ten hours of class time a day, six days a week. It works out to a bit more instruction than you would get in a semester college course...but we've got to cram it all into three weeks. I'm going to have to keep working on it on my own after the class ends to really be able to use it. I'm sure once I'm over there it'll come to me as I actually have to use...even if I am talking like a six year old. After the class lets out I'm taking off for San Francisco for a few days. Get away from everything military and just relax for a while. hopefully I'll be able to meet up with some people out there who know of good places to go and things to do that won't make me even more broke than I already am! even if not I know I can spend all day in the parks and wandering around the city.
I've only got about 5 days off and then almost as soon as I've gotten back we'll be flying out of here. Can't be too specific, but we'll be gone by the end of August. We've gotten some more information about where we'll be too. From the sound of it (and no doubt this could change) we will be based out a pretty secure air base. And since it is an airbase it's also supposed to have nice things like electricity and even running water!
can't complain about that.
it also sounds like Bravo Company (my company) has impressed the higher ups at Battalion enough that we've been picked to be the "workhorses" of the Battalion, handling whatever missions come down in addition to providing security for our own area of operations. sounds like we'll be pretty busy.
Everything else is going fine.The leg is healing up well. I don't think there is even gonna be a scar. oh well. maybe next time.
I'm getting a little tired of being out in the middle of nowhere in this heat,but it could be worse I suppose.
We're all starting to look forward (not in the excited happy sense) to what we'll be doing. it's hard to explain the effect of training and training and training for a duty and then what seems like (FINALLY) getting to put that training into actual effect. it's a different kind of anticipation.

i'm assuming that's "dragon's back" on the right and the comm school on the left as you guys are stepping off in yr 2nd photo...yr on the PFT course? it's been a while, i could be wrong.
I was an 03xx as well...of course things were a little less fucked up in the world than they are now, and i feel blessed for that while i was in the Fleet. Take care, Good luck & Semper Fi.
