well I survived the ride to and from Austin. it was actually kinda fun in a gee-I-coulda-died-but-didn't kind of way.
the weather was actually on my side and cleared up for the ride up and back. the only real problem was the 20-30mph crosswinds that kept trying to push me off the road. didn't even really have problems with other drivers.
Sunday night was great fun. went to the Alamo Drafthouse (movie theater that also serves food and alkyhol) and settled in to watch the Academy Awards with my friend Ilse and her cool friend Suzanne. the Oscars were fun...esp since they cut away during the commercials and played movie clips from embarrasing early films for the nominees and played games like Oscar night Bingo (squares reading things like "winner thanks spouse or agent" or "dress slips and reveals nipple"). between the three of us we had three bottles of wine (Coppola vineyards of course) some food, some mimosas, some champagne...went dancing out afterwards and drank a bit more but made it home in one...well three pieces.
next day had a nice hangover but recovered and was able to make the ride back to San Antonio before nightfall. so all went pretty well. had a good time. a bit of weirdness here and there but lots of alcohol and Austin is bound to invite that I spose.
