Well a weekend off. huzzah. it's not really anything.
I'm in that strange state of mind I get into when I am immersing myself in media. Reading a lot, watching movies, and sorting through images trying to make something of them. playing artist.
been reading Confederacy of Dunces and the second Harry Potter book (on loan from a co-worker) and watched three very good movies...well two movies...and a Dvd of serials.
second Cowboy Bebop dvd episodes 6-10. that show has the BEST music for a cartoon or any tv show ever made. hands down...not even a question. the first time I ever watched the show was on the dvd and I saw it the other day on adult swim on CTN, but I couldn't watch it...not watching it in Japanese just feels...wrong some how.
Then the other night I watched Bowling for Columbine finally. I liked it a lot.
I had some minor issues...mostly matters of presentation and framing of issues. the short short versions of American history and American foreign policy felt a bit....irresponsible, but overall I thought the movie was well done and I think it present extremly valid and important questions. I also like that it didn't pretend to offer THE solution or THE answer as such an obvious thing that only the idoits of some opposing ideaology could mistake. I have my own thoughts on it, but I'm not going to fill up my journal with them now.
And just now I watched Lost in La Mancha. I think that movie actually bothered me more than Bowling for Columnbine did. Maybe because the failure of that project upsets me more than the failure of a society. perhaps my priorities are skewed. I don't care. It should have been the most amazing movie ever. Terry Giliam's vision of Quixote? Gilliam IS Quixote! it should have been amazing. but instead...it was a waste and a disaster and now it just sits. It makes me sad.
and I am swimming in images. there are literally several thousand photographs on my computer...and I am going through them to tye them together. I have a very few close friends...that I am getting gifts for, but I would also like to make a small gift to them of an original image that I've put together. I have 2 weeks to get them made.
I'm actually functioning in a family capacity tomorrow!
don't get the sense that I don't care about my family. I do...quite a bit..but I don't like spending lots of time with them. anyhow. my grandmother got out of the hospital today...they thought maybe it was pneumonia, but it turned out to be bad bronchitis and she's ok. So my Dad and I are going to visit her tomorrow and bring her breakfast tacos like we used to do on Sundays years and years ago.
and then I'll spend the balance of tomorrow contemplating perfect gifts for good friends, working on images and riding my motorcycle because that makes me happy.
back to these images.
