damn. I guess it's been so long since I've updated that I've fallen out of habit. I get here and look at my page and think "I'll get around to updating as soon as I check my bookmarks...and groups...and the boards...and...oh look a distraction!" and then I never do it. Well..today...today it seems that I've found my way to the update page..and I've wasted a hundred or so words just letting you know that I found it...cause like it's not obvious.
anyhow.
Katy's visit was superfantastical. I would like for it to have been longer, of course, but work actually helped out by giving me a couple days off in the course of the work week so I was able to spend more time with her. We rode around on the motorcycle when it wasn't raining. We went out for pancakes and then got REALLY adventurous and made some ourselves that came out pretty damn good. We visited a couple animal shelters and a pet place just to visit with cats that didn't have people to visit with. The city animal shelter was kinda sad, but the cats were kept better than I expected, with most of them sharing a large habitat with cat perches and climbing spaces rather than cages. and they kept rabbits in the same building so I got to check out some black lop eared rabbits.
Work has been more than steady and I've been pulling in enough money to almost be caught up on bills. Of course that just means more bills come in to fill the void. If anything can sense a vaccuum and move to fill it, it's a financial responsibility. it's bizarre. I even had a little bit of money left over after Katy's visit, so I bought myself a toy. A new 19" LCD monitor to replace the clunky 15" CRT that came with the computer when I bought it. WORLD OF DIFFERENCE.
I also got a new helmet, but not an expensive one. just a well made budget helmet to replace my old one that I wear to work and for day to day stuff. it's worn out and needs to be retired. The new helmet is just a basic matte black helmet. I like it. There's some flashier helmets out there that I think are ok, but this just seems to be more my thing:
I'd like to get new boots too, but I've got to keep an eye on my money. I'm going away for three weeks for training with the Marines and the difference between what my job pays and what the Marine Corps pays...well...it's significant.
But most of my time these days is spent working my ass off and, if I am home, just reading and relaxing. Maybe playing some Oblivion, which has proven to be a kickass game. haven't played it yet on the new monitor...should be fun.
I had to go to the dentist today. I don't like going to the dentist. I am fairly certain that the field of dentistry was invented to give people that would have otherwise gone into the human torture an option that pays better and doesn't require working for the government.
it actually turned out not so bad. two cavities and that crown that broke when I was in Iraq. no wonder the military didn't want to pay to fix it. it cost FREAKING EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLARS!!!!!
with my insurance it goes down to closer to two hundred, but still. sheeeeeeeeeeeeesh.
I guess my teeth are all nice and clean...until I eat dinner and ice cream for dessert anyway.
what I'm reading right now is Salman Rushdie's Step Across this Line. It's a collection of some of his nonfiction and it's pretty good. I've always liked the way he voices things.
been watching a lot of Eastern cinema and digging on it.
Saw 2046 when Katy was down and I really liked it. My buddy says the noir was way overdone and kinda hoky, but I still thought it was good. watched Oldboy last night and LOVED it. It's a revenge tale worthy of Shakespeare.
I leave at the end of the month for that training in the Dutch Antillies with the Dutch Marines. should be interesting. i'll try to get y'all some pictures.
anyhow.

I'm just stopping by to say hi and that I hope you're doing well. I think it's really amazing that you and your girl go visit animals that don't have visitors! Me and macbastard do that all the time. Sometimes it's really sad and I always wanna take them all home...
