So today is the first day of Autumn Quarter; for once, I'm not teaching a class (thanks to the magic of fellowships, I actually have a long break from teaching). Somehow I'm still already busy (and not spending enough time on my research); I've already started picking up a bunch of tutoring hours, and all sorts of other little commitments keep cropping up (most of them my own fault, as I seem to have a need to fill my non-teaching time by volunteering to help out with departmental functions).
The Monday night first-time meeting with O was interesting, and definitely worthwhile. I'm such an information whore, I totally ate it up when she gave me the short version of the history of western music. It looks like we'll be getting together again sometime soon for a hike, which is another thing I can't get enough of. New people are fun!
(Side note: more people need to go to Floating Leaves in Ballard -- it's a beautiful teahouse, with good teas and a wonderful owner, but they seem to be attracting very little business.)

Your friend from NY sounded like she wanted phonesex.
