I believe you are correct that an out of state subpoena, unless it's from a Federal court, would have no effect on you. Moreover, I'm pretty sure that subpoenas are required to be personally served, not served via the mail.
What does the subpoena request though? A subpoena is just a request for information, there's no monetary claim in a subpoena.
