I'm home sick today, so I thought I'd take this chance to update while looking for another job, planning a beach vacation and making a grilled cheese sandwich. I've spent the past year working for a crazy old blue collar lady (her words) from Chicago who was fired recently. She had her good points - funny and liked to talk, but she also had extreme mood swings that generally made a mess of the property I work at. Staff morale way down, resident retention bad, bills not getting paid. The day she was let go I found an empty whiskey bottle in her desk. I feel bad for her. She held me back professionally and tried to beat me down in many ways, but I think her road to burnout started before I began my position there. I was let go from a similar position a couple of years ago and thought I would never get over it. 2 1/2 years 1 move, 1 engagement and 3 jobs later I think I'm in a better place now. I hope the same for her. Now I brush off my resume to go after that manager position that has been out of my clutches.

I'm trying to do better this year, spending more quality time with my son, finding a better position, trying to whittle down my massive debt, watching my relationship with the guy and my son morph into a more family like setting, still managing to have fun and not let the small stuff bother me. Some of it's been harder than others, but overall I'm happier than I've been in a long time.
