So it’s Sunday and I’ve had like 2 and half days off of work in a row for Thanksgiving and Black Friday.
Fortunately for me, being union has afforded me a job where both of these days are paid holidays... but there was one of the days for each shift to work the holiday. I chose to work Thanksgiving morning from 4am - 8am before the plant stopped operation for 24hrs. Got a half day of double time on top of the holiday pay. Afterwards stopped at the Planet Fitness which was open until one and got a good arm workout in. Sorry for those that had to work there but appreciative that they were open. Afterwards needed to stop at Rite-aid to grab something for my son who has been under the weather. I apologized to the clerk for even coming in and thanked her for effort that day. She was confused but seemed honored. We should all spend time paid with our families so I understand her sacrifice. Went home cleaned up, and spent the afternoon having dinner at my aunt’s house which is the Thanksgiving norm. I enjoy going there because I get time to spend with my dad’s side of the family that has taken so much time to develop relationship with and they’re all great people. From there went to my in-laws for dessert which was also nice but just a matter of getting it done. Avoided Thanksgiving shopping other than Rite Aid and only purchased my son’s Nintendo Switch online. Disappointed I missed the craziness of the store openings but I didn’t need anything so why try.
Friday spent the day with some friends throwing a round of disc golf in Allentown. This is the group of guys that really got me into playing when I started. After the one moved to South Carolina, they rarely ever get out to play let alone as a group. Rough cold round but we had blast and went out to get food and drinks afterwards. Checked out this little modern place, maybe hipster, the fuck if I’d know what to call it. I got to try poutine for the first time. Which in case you don’t know was French fries topped with duck gravy and cheese curds. Delicious! Played another round afterwards closer to home before getting home to the family. Checked out Lowe’s, Best Buy and Target to realize we didn’t really want much but started checking a couple of gifts off the list.
Saturday was a pretty lazy day... Did stop by the in-laws to help my father-in-law move a treadmill from the second floor of his garage, across the yard, and into the basement of the house. In the process worried about getting a concussion. Stood it up, came down the stairs of the garage, got caught at the overhead of the stairway, while changing position because I thought it was well propped, it gave way and fell towards me unexpectedly and hit me on the side of the head. Ouch!!! Good thing it didn’t completely fall, or I’d been in the hospital. Because I had an app coupon to spend over $200 to save $50... crossed a few more gifts off the list.
Now it’s Sunday morning, woke up super early and couldn’t fall back to sleep, so I came into work 2 hours early. Which is where I’m at now. Gonna be a long rough day especially if my asshole child doesn’t let me nap.
