The first thing she said to me when she woke up was, "Have your eyes always been that color?" After throwing up, the second thing she said was, "If I'd known it would be this bad, I'd have just offed myself." That was the hardest thing I've ever had to hear.

Then she threw up for half an hour. Partly it was from the morphine, and partly because they had to cut the nerves that control equilibrium to get to the tumor; now the smallest movement makes her seasick. After that, the team of neurologists had to come and do a thorough check up. The slightest cranial pressure, say from vomiting, could cause hemorrhaging, meaning she'd have to do it all over again.

As she held my hand I said, "It'll be better tomorrow." I really hope it will.
