Settling In Atlanta, Day 7: Car Fixed, Job Impending
Written April May 17, 2004, Monday, 11:06pm
I spent most of the day home with the kids while Wyspurr went through the arduous task of getting the car fixed. I would have taken the kids to the park but the clouds were looming threateningly. Ultimately all we had was a little drizzle.
At least the car is fixed now. Hopefully we will be able to make a trip to Asheville soon to see our friends and get some of our stuff.
I start work tomorrow. I'm really anxious about it. I've been really looking forward to getting to work so that I can meet new people and bring home a paycheck. I'm just a little nervous because it is going to be a totally new situation. I've never worked in a bagel place before so I don't have much idea of what it is going to be like. I can't imagine it will be too bad but I can get a little overwhelmed if I have to learn a lot at once with a lot of distractions. The anticipation is almost always worse than the reality, though, so I'm trying not to psyche myself out over it.
One thing about the starting work things that really bothers me is that it means that Wyspurr and I won't see much of each other during the week. Just a couple of hours each weekday for the most part. I am not thrilled with that prospect at all. At least we'll have the weekends but I can see lack of time together possibly causing problems in our emotional health and our relationship. Maybe when we get caught up and more stable in our new situation she'll be able to cut back the number of hours she works. I'm sure she wouldn't mind a couple less days of the week that she'll have to get up at three in the morning.
