Once again I know I'm a bit late but it's just right know that I've got a good reason to do it ! I always avoid to do a Homework that tells me nothing.
So let's go for a review of THE LOVELY BONES, by Peter Jackson, with Saoirse Ronan, Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz and Susan Sarandon ... (many big names). Thanks to @lyxzen , @missy and @rambo !
Synopsis :
1970's Suburban in Pennsylvania. Susie Q, a 14-year-old girl full of life, romantic, and interested in photography is murdered by her neighbor. She tells the story from the place between Heaven and Earth, showing the lives of the people around her and how they have changed all while attempting to get someone to find her lost body.
I saw this movie for the first time at the cinema with my mum when it went out in 2009. I was 16 and I felt bad for many reasons. As I already wrote it in a last homework I had a nervous breakdown at this age, it's not to tell my life you'll notice that it matters about the opinion which I had on this movie !
At this time I found this movie totally awesome. Saoirse Ronan is stunning (I imagine you saw her at least in The Grand Budapest Hotel by Wes Anderson), the history is dramatic and touching, it's kind of spiritual, and there's a lot of fantasy that crosses a real world. And at the end there's still a kind of hope. I remember that I'd really been seduced by the photography.
And I'd been totally mindblown but the images in the fantastic world where Susie remains between Earth and Heaven
Seems awesome huh ? Well, wathing it again this week was a source of deception. Last week, I talked about this movie with a friend of my bf, and then I remembered it and told to him Dude we really need to watch this movie ! I was impatient. I talked about it with a friend of mine she told me Oh yes I found it awesome. Then, the moment came and I noticed many defaults that I didn't found at 16.
You can remove about 20 minutes of the movie because NOTHING happens except awfull cheesyness (like the worst romatic clichés ever) even the musics are previous and expected. At this level, the end is just unbearrable. The images in 3D are finally poorly carried out and there are so kitsch. I would enjoyed to post this kind of images on my blog when I was 15 ! (So you understand better now why I loved this movie so much when I was a teen) The end is a bit long and totally stupid, but I won't spoil.
It's such a shame because it's a great history (it comes from a book actually) the actors are really good and Peter Jackson can be a cool director. Then I remembered that King Kong was fucking cheesy too and everything was expected. But, damn, he directed LOTR and his first movie Bad Taste is pretty cool, creative, funny and all ! Peter, you passed by many paths.
That's all for now folks,
xoxo
