or: How to Accept That You Will Never Again Have DSL
So I had the worm/virus/whatever that destroyed one computer.
Then I just went to to the library for awhile.
Then I got a computer from work that was being replaced anyway. But it had yucky viruses on it which removed huge chunks of memory.
Then I had The Slowest Computer in The World.
Then my grandpa gave me his laptop. I was very grateful. Life was good. It didn't have a DSL modem, but after a quick trip to Fry's (well, as quick as a trip to Fry's can get) I took care of that. I installed it. I plugged in my modem. I connected it to the DSL phone line that I've been paying for for months (I'm under contract, you know). I inserted the CD with the software that my DSL company provided me. I went through the setup instructions. I finished. I was so close to having DSL again after so many months.
Then I got an error message.
I called tech support and went through the whole process and they told me they were probably having an outage and it would be fixed by the next morning. It wasn't. I called again and a few more times throughout the week. I tried connecting. Same error.
Called tonight and tech support tells me it's a TCP/IP issue and I should call Microsoft. I called, but of course, free tech support for Windows 98 ended a while back.
So, SG, I turn to you. Save me 35 bucks. Tell me what this means:
E0043P: Server Communication Error
(EOO2P: Unable to Register)

If you don't feel like spending money, you could give Linux a shot... But that means learning all kinds of confusing stuff and everything. If you do go that way, I recommend SuSE, it's a very easy installation.
