My theory is this ... life sucks from about age 14 until about age ... 18 ... no wait, then everything is just alien and awkward ... maybe 20 ... no that was terrible too ... 22? Nope still sucks ... well, it's bound to get better sometime ...
... I know its hard to sum up the death of a loved one with a comment such as "Shit Happens", but sometimes its the best way to go. Tazgoth is right, drinking will numb the pain (if that is your intention), but it's better to accept life for what it is and make the best of it.
Reality is just like TV, everything works out in the end ... except American Idol ... or The Bachelor ... or oif its a series and gets cancelled ... but again, it's probably all for the best ...
